Windows 10 VPN error "The parameter is not correct"

Question

Wednesday, July 4, 2018 5:06 PM

I am trying to connect to private VPN from University from past three weeks. General VPN (CyberGhost) connections are working. I following all steps and entered all information (certificates, all necessary services are running, drivers, firewall, etc.) correctly related to log in. Also, followed several online suggestions, but the error "The parameter is not correct" stays. It is working with Windows 7. There were couple of updates to Win10, laptop is up to date, but none of them have fixed this issue. Means, there is a bug in Win10 only. Its very frustrating.

Please suggest workable solution ASAP. Thanks.

Hi,

Would you please try windows build-in VPN. To avoid the 3-party software conflict, it is suggested that you can perform a clean boot , then bue build-in vpn in windows 10.

Here is how to set up a build-in VPN in windows 10

I following these steps:

1. Press "Windows + R" at the same time
2. Enter "control wuaucpl.cpl" (without speech marks) followed by enter
3. Select "Scan for Updates"
4. Install all updates including optional ones

But, when I run the command, nothing happens and hence there are no updates to install.

Hi,

Most of the solutions given on that site are related to regular login errors or hard drive access related 'parameter errors'. But, I have no problem in logging in. As mentioned, the same University VPN (IKEv2) [this is provided by academic University and not 3rd party software] is working on Win7 (build-in VPN). I did perform "sfc /scannow" in normal and safe mode, but no change in error. This is first time I am trying it on Win10 (latest update version 1803 KB4284835) and don't know on which version it was working. Hence can't use restore option as well.
