Can SQL server data tools be installed without Visual Studio?
Im told a reduce version of Visual Studio comes with the SQL Server installation package.
The standalone version of SSDT can be installed with the reduce version. I found a link for a SSDT stand-alone , it mentions Visual Studios 2017. Does this mean it requires VS 2017 or that it shares components with it?

Hi dinstructor,
Welcome to MSDN forum.
If you want to install SQL Server Data Tools without Visual Studio, you can run the SSDT standalone installer to install Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services. You can select Install a new SQL Server Data Tools instance installs with a minimal version of Visual Studio. The SSDT is based on Visual Studio shell, even without Visual Studio being already there, installing SSDT will install a Visual Studio - Integrated Shell.
But if you want to get all of the project templates together in one SSDT, you need the newest version. Only one shell is installed per version of Visual Studio. For more details, please refer to this link.
BTW, if you have other issues about SSDT, we recommend you start a new thread in the SQL Server Data Tools forum for a better help. Thanks for your understanding.
Hoping everything goes well.
Sincerely,
Anna
