My extensive sticky notes are gone after a windows 10 service upgrade.
I've read through the posts and have tried the suggestions with no success.
I've spent a lot of time reading and attempting to recover and am posting this as a last ditch effort to recover that information. I'm not able to find any of the files referred to in prior posts and just really angry at the loss of information.

You can download Microsoft Sticky Notes
Usually, when you lose Sticky Notes on your desktop in PC, you’ll be able to find all notes from the Sticky Notes folder via StickyNotes.snt files
- Open File Explorer and copy: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Sticky Notes\StickyNotes.snt in the address bar;
- Find and open StickyNotes.snt file with Notepad, Microsoft Word or Wordpad;
- View and find lost notes in the .snt file, copy the exact notes that you lost and and paste to a new Sticky Notes so to recover it then.
You may also try to right-click on the StickyNotes.snt file and select Restore previous versions to recover the lost sticky notes

Hello,
Try re-registering Sticky Notes app. Run following command in administrative Windows PowerShell:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}
Hope this helps!

Hi SF44,
I meet with the similar situation recently, look at this case below and use op's solution here.
Step-1:
Close the StickyNotes application.
Open Run, type %appdata%\Microsoft\Sticky Notes\ and press OK to navigate to the old StickyNotes app data file location.
Step-2:
Open Run, type %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Legacy\ and pressOK to navigate to the new StickyNotes app data file location.
Copy the old app data file StickyNotes.snt as ThresholdNotes.snt into this new StickyNotes app data location,
Step-3:
Open the StickyNotes app, now automatically old data will be converted to new StickyNotes app data format.
Regards

I had a similar problem and I Resolved the issue by following the setps
I found in the folder %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
had 2 .".storage" files One had a newer time stamp then other.
So 1. Closed sticky notes all 2. I backed up both files, 3. Copy file name of the newer file and then removed it. 4. Re-named the old file as the name of the newer file 5. re-launch the app

Thats the one for new sticky notes.
1- Swear to microsoft for wiping your settings for no reason.
2- Download and install "search everything" for windows.
3- Search for ".storage.session" with search everything app because file explorers search takes forever.
4- Open all folders and, backup all files you find.
5- Copy paste xxx.storage.session file with plum.sqlite file to path mentioned above (%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState) and reopen sticky notes app and see if its your notes.
6- Good luck.

After my upgrade to windows 10 my sticky notes app opened but it has none of my data.
I went to :
C:\Users\Users\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
Inside the folder is the plum.sqlite from today but it doesn't have my old data.
As best I can tell the upgrade to Windows 10 has wiped out the 6+ pages of sticky notes data I had.
Not happy.

It just happened to me... my extensive & irreplaceable sticky note collection is just gone.
Did anyone give you an answer yet? Anything new since July, 2018? None of the old options helped.
I even went to Microsoft & had a remote session; THEN the tech told me that they aren't backed up so they can't be recovered... I'm hoping he's wrong.
Please... I can't replace that info & will kill trees from this day forward by using paper post-its but I REALLY NEED THAT INFO!!!
Help?

THIS IS THE ONE SOLUTION THAT WORKED!
The majority of the proposed solutions say to go to %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Sticky Notes\StickyNotes.snt. However this is not where the Stickynotes app was located on my system, so after searching for this location multiple times, I began to believe that my old sticky notes had been wiped out. Finally after three hours of troubleshooting, I saw this post. It clarifies that the actual location of the sticky note app and data was in this location:
\Users\localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
So as instructed, I searched for the xxx.storage.session and plum.sqlite files. One set was located in the c:\windows.old folder:
C:\Windows.old\Users\yourusername^\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
And the second set was located in the root directory:
**C:\**Users\yourusername^\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
The set in the windows.old folder had older dates than the set located in the root directory. I copied the older **xxx.storage.session **and **plum.sqlite **files from the c:\windows.old path into the c:\ path, and voila, my notes were restored.
Too bad Microsoft doesn't build these steps into their Window Update protocol. It would save many users time and frustration over the perceived loss of information.
Thank you, Malipetek!

Tzamon - the old data is probably in the same path but located in the windows.old folder. It was in mine. I hope that it works for you.

This doesn't work on an Asus. I am at wit's end trying to recover my sticky notes after a long windows 10 update yesterday. I have spent 1.5 hours and counting. What a waste. The Microsoft anthem seems to always be: Change what is working and make it more complicated and arcane for users.

Thank you so much. This fixed my issue :-)

Actually if you guys right click on the Sticky Note program and select "Note Lists" it will show the list of all your notes.

*This solution does not work if you are going from Windows 7 to 10!!
The AppData etc paths are not there if you are looking in Windows.old.
