I'm using Office 365 Business for my company email etc. - so I have setup Windows 10 Pro with a connect to my mail.
In my System Properties, it still just says my computer name and WORKGROUP.
Now when trying to join my new internal company domain I'm given this error:
Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred:
This machine is already joined to a cloud domain and cannot be subsequently joined to an Active Directory domain.
So the questions is:
Cannot I not use a local domain AND Office 365 mail at the same time? Or what might go wrong here?

You can use both, and there is no need to be joined to an Azure AD domain
in order to use Office 365.
When you go to Settings/UserAccounts/Work Access and click Join or leave
Azure AD what is the result? If you're currently joined to an Azure AD
domain, you'll need to leave it before joining the on-premises domain.

I have not "joined" the Azure AD in the "traditional" sense. I have just used the build-in features of Windows 10 to open and read my mail etc. from Office 365 Business.
I'm still logging in with my personal Microsoft personal account.
So how do I leave a domain I didn't join in the first? When looking at the good old computer properties, then I'm still connected just to the work group.

Please answer the specific question I asked. When you go to the section of
Settings I described, what do you see?
Your computer certainly thinks that you've joined Azure AD and FWIW when
you do so, then it still shows that you're in a workgroup.

Ok. Despite that I've never really added Azure to the machine then it didn't work.
So I followed the step to first remove the machine from any domains (Settings -> System -> About).
Then after the reboot, then I could add my domain without problems.
I would just have loved a more saying error message from Windows. :)

The error message told you exactly what the problem was, and if you'd
followed my steps, you'd have seen the same information that
Settings/System/About told you.

Well by a more saying error message was the empty screen that popped up just after the primary error message was displayed.
This page following the message only contained a blank box for password, but no other text!

My only issues with scolding that tech is when I try to open the "About" it crashes the settings app. Also When I run DSREGCMD I get "AzureADJoined : No. Any other ideas as my machines are virtual and have no TPM.

No need to be a jerk. There is a lot of confusion on the topic hence all the threads out there. The trouble most people encounter is disconnecting from Azure AD to join their local domain. It is not that straight forward and if you happened to rename the computer after you have connected to the Azure AD...you are for the most part stuck.

I think the real question is how did the device get joined to AAD in the first place? Is there a setting in the tenant that controls this? We are seeing this right not. I may or may not have something to do with the accouchement of the full intergration of SCCM and Intune being one now. Co-Management. Which has to some degree been around, but not to the fullest it is now.
