Recover Deleted Items greyed out for added mailbox Outlook 2013

Question

Thursday, January 15, 2015 10:23 PM

Let me know if I should direct this to another forum but I have a little question about Outlook 2013. The recover deleted items works fine for a user if they are performing this action on their own mailbox. However, if another mailbox has been added to their Outlook the option is greyed out. Is there a way to enable deleted item recovery through Outlook 2013 for recovery on an added mailbox?

We are running Exchange 2010 as the back end and the users are able to see the other mailbox (AD mailbox) in their Outlook through the Manage Full Access Permission option in Exchange.

Thanks!

Hi Scott,

We may try adding the “DumpsterAlwaysOn” registry value and then test the issue again. To do this, please follow:

1. Exit Outlook. Navigate to the following registry path according to your Outlook version and Windows version:

32-bit Outlook on a 32-bit version of Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options

32-bit Outlook on a 64-bit version of Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options

64-bit Outlook on a 64-bit version of Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options

2. Right-click in the right side pane, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

3. Name the registry value to DumpsterAlwaysOn and set the value to 1.

4. Exit Registry Editor and then start Outlook to test the issue again.

Please let me know the result.

It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.

It's only possible to recover deleted items from an Exchange account - the deleted items are kept on the Exchange server for a while. Other types of account don't keep deleted items.

Thank you for your response. We are dealing ONLY with Exchange accounts and we have a retention policy of 14 days for all of our Exchange mailboxes. It's just that when I add a second Exchange mailbox to a user's Outlook, the option to recover deleted items is greyed out.

In that case, I'm afraid I don't know what causes the problem; I hope someone else can help you.
