Loading Software center returned error code 0x80041001

Question

Tuesday, June 5, 2012 9:37 PM

I am able to push the agent to computers with no problem and they even populate my customizations (color and company name).  The agents come up as installed in the admin console.  But every time I try to load the software center on a computer I get this error; “There is a problem showing the current status.” Error code 0x80041001 (-2147217407)

If I click within the agent ‘Find additional applications from the application catalog’ it brings me to an HTTPS site with the packages ready to install.  Is there a log I can check out?  I am a bit puzzled by this… what am I missing?

That error has seem to go away with a client re-install.  The Software Center Client still lists nothing for new users but as soon as you click and go off to the webpage and install an application from there the program that has been installed shows up in Software Center....

Do you see this error on all your clients or just a single/few ?
Have you tried to run the ccmeval.exe process (from C:\windows\ccm)? It might be able to fix the problem.

This happens on all clients and I have run ccmeval.exe a few times hoping that would fix the issue.

 Error code 0x80041001 (-2147217407)

Have you checked WMI health? The error indicates WMI related problem.....

Let us know how it turns out...
Like An00p says, it might be related to WMI (but ccmeval.exe should be able to fix that).

Did you run ccmeval.exe on the client or on the server ?

You need to run ccmeval.exe on the client...

yes that was the same output on two seperate desktop computers.

If you start the Software Center on SCCM02, do you get the same error?
I don't see any errors in your log file...

SCCM02 is actually one of our primary sites and i do not have the agent installed on that.  is there a place i can test the WMI on a primary site?

"One of your primary sites".... That's a VERY important information...

How is your hierachy and sccm infrastructure build and where are your roles installed?
Is your environment in mixed mode or native mode?

I have a central site - SCCM01 and one Primary for now SCCM02 - both running SCCM 2012. We are working on just getting the system on its feet.

I dont think mixed mode or native mode applys to sccm2012.

centeral (sccm01) site has- Component server, endppoint protection point, site db server, site server, site system, software update point.

Primary (sccm02) has - Application catalog web service point, application catalog website point, component server, distribution point, managment point, site db server, site server, site system, software update point.

thanks again!

80041001 is a generic WMI failure so it's not very useful for troubleshooting but it gets us somewhere at least.

Some potential troubleshooting steps:

  • Is the client registered with the site and otherwise functioning (sending inventory, etc)?
  • Is the client Approved = Yes in the administrator console?
  • Are there any errors in CCMSDKProvider.log on the client?
  • Are there any errors in the %WINDIR%\system32\wbem\logs log files?

Thursday, June 7, 2012 8:34 PM

Yes the client can communicate with its primary site with no problem.

  1. The client is registered and you can pull all metrics about the client from the sccm console
  2. Clients are approved
  3. No errors in any of the CCMSDKprovider logs (very clean there are few – “found 0 available scripts” or “found 0 available updates” found with in the log)
  4. Yes there are errors in wmiprov log – “(Wed Jun 06 14:18:49 2012.77109858) : WDM call returned error: 5”

is that where we are running into issues?

Are you seeing any errors in the [email protected] file that may help narrow this down a bit?

Is it just one client or all the clients? If it is not all the computers, whats the difference between those that work and those that don't?

The 'Find Additional Applications' should do what you explain. That is expected behavior and how to get to the Application Catalog.

Can you launch the Console by running as administrator?

This issue affects all clients

The weird part is all the other reporting parts of the sccm client work just fine, I can even use the remote feature to control a users machine.  The webpage distribution works just fine too! that is why i am so puzzled.

THANKS!

Yes I can launch the software center console by launching it as administrator but it still wont list my advertisements.

Have you tried logging off and logging back on ?
Also, if you have package/program deployments, it may be helpful to log off all users from the machine and then log back in.

Tuesday, June 12, 2012 3:48 PM

Yah I have tried both of those many times - still with no luck.

SO, I was cruising the forums and I found this post -

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmanagerapps/thread/dc6fc39e-2dea-4eac-9ca8-e6b299216388

Thats basically the same issue I am having - maybe I have mistaken it as an issue.  Should I be deploying all applications through the Application Catalog webpage?

Because as soon as i start an install from the webapge the program shows up in my Software Center and shows the installation process....

I do not see that the other thread is dealing with the same issue as you. I don't see any connection between this threads.
Available deployments to users will be shown on the Application Catalog website, available deployments to computers and required deployments to users or computers will show up in Software Center.
It's also by design that software installations that are kicked off using the website will then be shown in Software Center.

But the problem you are having is you are getting an error when loading Software Center correct?

Wednesday, July 10, 2013 10:29 PM

Did you ever find a fix for this? I'm seeing this on a few of my clients - not all. No rhyme or reason that I can discern. Reinstalling the client makes the message go away, but I'd love to know a reason WHY it appears in the first place.

I know it is a quiet old post, but we had the issue today on a W2k3 server.

In my case I missed the .NET 4.0 installation. It will required to open the Software Center without the error.

So you suggest to verify the WMI repository and if corrupted to rebuild it?

Monday, January 20, 2020 6:24 PM

I was experiencing this on 1 workstation.  Uninstalled the client, cleaned off files and registry, reinstalled.  Had the same problem.

I went to the SCCM Console, Devices, and told it to reinstall the client (checked uninstall first).  After that reinstalled and a reboot, it is working fine.
