When inserting several pictures...they are ''glued'' together.

Question

Hello! The question is regarding Excel 2010. The operation system is window 7. When I select and insert several pictures (not only one) into a worksheet...the pictures appear ''glued'' together and I cannot move one picture at a time. The pictures move together as a group and I cannot separate them from one another. The thing is...they are NOT 'grouped' together. I checked it. Still, they are stuck to each other and I don't know how to separate them. Hope you can help.   orith852

Ok...I see...when you select multiple images to be inserted into an Excel sheet they insert overlayed on top of one another.

This I can reproduce...all the images have an individual selection handle on them...and they move in a group because they are all selected at the same time upon the insertion.

What you have to do after this...is click on any cell in the area away from the pictures.

This will "Place" them..and unselect all of the picture objects.  You can then select one picture at a time and move it to where you want it in the Excel sheet.

Hope this helps,
john

Where are you inserting the pictures from?  Are you copying and pasting multiple objects from a graphics program like Fireworks or Photoshop?  Or are you importing pictures by using the INSERT -> Picture command?

If you are copying and pasting from another program, Excel won't retain the image objects, and instead treats the entire clipboard as a singular image which is what you're seeing.  Try just copying and pasting individual objects from the other program one at a time, rather than selecting them all and pasting them.

If you're inserting multiple picture files...the only way they would be glued together is if you did Group them...which you say you didn't.

Hope this helps,
john

I am using the INSERT -> Picture command. Yes!

Basically I am interesting JPEG photos from a folder on my computer.

Inserting one photo at a time IS a solution, but it's terribly inefficient. I know 100% that the photos are not GROUPED. They are stacked on top of each other (but not grouped) and for some reason they move together.

Hope anyone can help.

Is there a way of inserting multiple pictures so that each is inserted into an individual cell?

Robwer1,

If you are interested in ready solution instead of VBA script or macro, have a look at Picture Manager For Excel. It allows you to easily insert multiple pictures automatically sized to fit cells into single or multiple Excel spreadsheets at once. Other features of the add-in include quick removal of all images from spreadsheets. Free demo download and video demonstration available at Doality.com website.
