Hi Folks,

We are facing strange issue, where client is using a network shared drive in his Windows 7 Machine from UK zone.

However the network shared drive coming is from Roger's(Canada).

The users accessing from Rogers has no issues where as the UK users facing the file disappearing issue(all microsoft files such as excel, word etc.)

Mainly, this issue is intermittent and suddenly excel, word files gets disappeared randomly from the network shared drive folder and user need to create a test file which bring back the disappeared file back in the folder, not sure creating & saving a new file refreshes something which fix the issue for time being. However the same is very annoying. Appreciate if someone suggest anything to fix it.

Regards

Jasmeet

Hi,

Since  this issue is intermittent and suddenly, it might related to the DirectoryCacheLifetime setting on the client machines. Have a look at this Technet article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff686200%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

If you suspect metadata caching in the redirector as cause for misbehaving applications, disable the caches in the following order to determine which of these caches is affecting the application. Disabling the File information cache can have significant effect on client performance and show an increase in the number of metadata requests that are sent to the server.

1.Directory cache, by setting DirectoryCacheLifetime to ZERO.

2. File Not Found cache, by setting FileNotFoundCacheLifetime to ZERO.

3. File information cache, by setting FileInfoCacheLifetime to ZERO.

Hope above information can help you.

Hi,

I am trying to get your suggestion implement on one of our client's machine.

  1. May I know did you want this directory in the registry changed ? if yes no 2 and 3 not found or you want me to create it in his registry ?

2. Also, if the steps mentioned didn't help then we need to revert the change, can you help me the steps to revert the change in case it didn't work?

Hi,

Sorry for my late reply.

If 2 or 3 not found, metadata caching may not be the cause.

Since it has significant effect, we may consider other ways.

Based on my research, it may be offline files related. Check to be sure offline files is not on for that share.

In addition, here are some posts with the similar issue with yours, just for your reference, you can try the method mentioned in them:
