Question

I have the latest version of Windows 10 16299.192 using a Dell laptop. I'm trying to use the MBR2GPT utility to change my system disk from MBR to GPT. The link below contains a Microsoft video I used for instructions:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/mbr-to-gpt
When I’m using the MBR2GPT tool in Administrator privilege (Administrator account is local, so no MS account) in the command mode, the system generate a message:
enableprivilege: AdjusttokenPrivileges failed (Error:0x514)
Error: failed to enable backup/restore privileges
Check that you are running in a process with elevated privileges
I set the UAC level for the Administrator account to “off”, but receive still the same message.
Any tips?

Not sure why you want to convert, but suggest you backup all your data before hand just in case. Also hope you have read all the page that is linked.
So wondering did you run this from an admin command prompt? Search start for cmd right click Command Prompt and Run as administrator then try again.

Ok will did try this on a clean install just to see and it worked.
So wondering what version of Windows 10 are you running?
What 3rd party software (backup, AV anything like that) is installed?

Octo, I'm getting this same error tonight. Maybe a hint you can figure it out or somebody can.
In getting this Windows 10 onto a larger hard drive I have been having to go through several steps (hoops) which had me run disk management each time after a reboot. (Don't ask) Four times, disk management started fine after each boot and admin login, but this last time of reboot and upon starting disk management (when I was going to run mbr2gpt) a pop up window came up saying something like: do I want to allow this program to make changes. Like somehow the admin rights had been altered. I can only guess that mbr2gpt is failing for the same reason. I got no other clues.
Another location suggested this 4 step fix:
1. Sign in as admin
2. Disable UAC
3. Disable system restore and reboot.
4. Use the elevated CMD/PowerShell prompt.
Which I was trying and on the reboot, I get the RUDE WIN10 Command to us peons: "Getting Windows Ready..." (to #@$% Me!)

Hi,
Make sure you login Windows with administrator account if you are using local device.
As the error code seems related with backup/restore privilege, please go to Local Group Policy editor, open Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Back up files and directories and check if the administrator account has been added to the group.
If not, try to add it through "Add user or group" option.
If you have any result, please reply to us.
