Question

Hello,
We're unable to import a VM with a VHD to Hyper-V 2016 - it comes up with a page that states "No virtual machine files found". I've combed the documentation, but I don't see anything about dropping support for the VHD file format. Is VHD import still supported in Hyper-VM 2016?
Thanks,
Jason

Hello,
VHD format is still supported. What is the source Hyper-V platform's version? 2008, 2012?

Please review this: http://itproctology.blogspot.com/2015/02/migrating-vms-from-hyper-v-2008-or-2008.html
And compare it to the process that got you to the error message.
And then report back.

Hi Jason,
Is the VM exported from Server 2012 R2?
On Server 2016, Virtual machine configuration files use a new format different from Server 2012. And the configuration version also changed.
I suppose VMs exported from earlier versions may not be recognized.
You could copy the VHD and try to build a new VM with the VHD.
Best Regards,
Leo

Windows Server 2016 can import Windows Server 2012 R2 VMs and will then allow you to covert them to the new format.
Take a look at https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/virtual_pc_guy/2014/02/10/registering-an-incompatible-vm-with-powershell/ and or https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/virtual_pc_guy/2013/08/21/bulk-registering-virtual-machines-with-powershell/
