I do not find the Asus X99A as a supported mobo for Windows Server - www.windowsservercatalog.com.  That does not mean that you can't get Windows Server to run, but it does mean that it either has not been tested, or the manufacturer decided that their tests showed proved to them that they did not want to support it.

That said, you have tried the drivers from the Asus site.  The other thing to try is to make sure all your firmware and BIOS is up to date from Asus and then try downloading drivers from Intel (I'm assuming from the drivers you have tried that it is an intel card).  Find the model of the adapter and try downloading those drivers from Intel.

Hi!

**Problem solved! :) **

For some reason they released the i218-V (desktop) and i218-LM (server) versions of their gigabit ethernet chip. They are the same chip. The only difference is that the -V has support for Win7, Win8 and -LM has support for WS2008, WS2012, i.e. desktop drivers and server drivers.

Is the idea is that you can’t run Windows server OS’es on desktop hardware and you will buy the server hardware instead?

My solution was to edit e1d64x64.inf in install folder of the driver and include my DeviceInstance Id.

There is several descriptions, with slight variations of the install protocol. If you follow the protocol for i217-V, it might not work.

My solution was solved when I did the final steps, following a user called "oshea".

You don't necesarily need Asus specific drivers, you need the drivers for the chipset.

As Tim Cerling mentioned, find out what chipset the motherboard is using and download the relevant drivers from the Intel site.

Thanks for quick reply from both of you.  - I have done a full update of BIOS to X99-A BIOS 2101. - I also download the complete network driver-CD from intel. But I get the error message similar to "Unable to install, missing Network adapters".

Now I hope to be able to buy a new network card, that support asus X99-A and Win 2012 R2 server.

I was recommended this card:

http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/adapters/pro1000gt/pro1000gt-overview.htm

But for this card I can't find download for 2012 R2 drivers, only drivers for 2008 server. So I am not sure if I shuld buy it.

See link for drivers    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/50480/Intel-PRO-1000-GT-Desktop-Adapter

I hope someone on the forum can confirm that “Intel® PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter” or recommend a different one, that will work on a computer with Asus X99-A motherboard and windows 2012 R2 server.

It sounds like you are trying to build things from scratch instead of using validated components.  If that is the case, you are not likely to find much in regards to server drivers and components.  Your best bet is to try to create a system for which you can find drivers for Windows 8.1.  Most of the time, you will have better luck finding those components, and most of the time (but not always) a driver that works for 64-bit Windows 8.1 will work with Windows Server 2012 R2.  It won't be supported, but it will generally work.

Hi Torgrim,

Can you shed some light as to what you did to get the LAN driver working for Server 2012. Thanks

I've found this driver for Windows Server 2019: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28396/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-Server-2019-?product=1201
