Lock screen won't slide up on while using keyboard after the november update for Windows 10.

Question

Saturday, December 12, 2015 1:54 AM | 5 votes

Immediately after I installed Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3118754) (the November update) I started having problems with my lock screen. The problems with the lock screen only come after I close and reopen my laptop. If I manually lock my computer or put it to sleep there are no problems.  What happens is that when the lock screen shows up I can't slide the lock screen up in order to enter my password using any keys on the keyboard except for control, alt, delete. I have tried troubleshooting the hard drive and devices, doing system scans, and downloading the most recent keyboard driver for my computer and I still have the problem.

Hi,

It is not something wrong with your computer. You don't need to update any drivers or software.

It is a windows bug and Microsoft is aware of this. We should wait for a fix. No ETA although

Do you have a mouse?  Clicking works for me.  Otherwise I agree they are changing the functionality too often for no good reason that I can think of.  I used to press Tab to get by that, then had to learn to start pressing a Ctrl- key instead and now this.  Fortunately I haven't had to use your workaround yet.

Hi,

I have latest updates released on December, and current build is 10586.29 and there is no issue on my computer.

Would you please install the latest update to check the issue?

I'm using a wireless logitech keyboard and it worked just fine for me now after updates ran last night.

Strange though.

Does clicking on it work?  BTW I could have mentioned that I have a multi-monitor setup and notice that in order to do the click I always have to move the mouse off the far side of the second monitor to anywhere in the primary.  Then that may also mean that keyboard focus is on the second monitor too.  However, in that case, pressing a Ctrl- key (with Mouse Sonar enabled) could indicate that and in any case why wouldn't pressing Tab restore keyboard focus to the right monitor?  E.g. there are no controls anywhere in the other screen where a tab would stick.  I'll try to remember to refine my observations for these points.

I'm using the keyboard on my laptop.

It seems that drivers for keyboard could be some incompatible issue with 11 updates.

Please check device management, and check the properties of Keyboard driver, and then if the rollback is available, click to get previous version of Keyboard driver to check the issue.

Then, make sure to install the latest updates from December since I have no such issue on my Dell laptop.

Yes clicking works but you have to click multiple times. And no the rollback for the keyboard driver is not available.

I'm seeing the exact same issues you are describing on my own Acer V7 laptop. Hitting my keyboard's spacebar to unlock the lock screen worked fine before the November update was installed.

It's rather infuriating. If it is truly an OS software bug they introduced in the update, I hope that MS comes out with a fix for it soon.

Since there are several updates released to improve Windows 10, would you please check if your issue can be fixed after installing all updates?

I'm experiencing the same issues on my Acer Laptop. On my Desktop though it works... Strange issue...

Same issue here.  Prior to 1511 I was able to slide up the lock screen with any key (I use the Ctrl key).  Since moving to 1511 I cannot do that.  The key combo Ctrl + Alt + Del does work but the lock screen does not slide up gracefully, it just disappears.  My mouse works normally.

I see that sometimes and swap the keyboard for a USB one and then it works again.

I've also been experiencing this issue on both my laptop and desktop since the Windows 10 1511 update. Both systems use completely different hardware so this is definitely a software issue with Windows. Even a fresh format and install of the latest Windows 10 makes no difference. Before a simple press of any key on the keyboard would bring up the lock screen. Now only a mouse click or CTRL+ALT+DEL works. This is an annoying issue that I'm sure MS has known for a while now and just hasn't done anything about it.

So, for a while I have been trying to use something else besides a mouse click to raise the lock screen.  Swiping up works.  I still haven't mastered the Logo+Power button method of replacing a Ctrl-Alt-Delete and am really concerned about what mistakes done that way (e.g. powering off instead of bringing up the prompt) may be doing to my hardware.

Does anyone else here have the blank lock screen that apparently forces real lock screen dismissal?  Also, I wonder how many can not get the real lock screen any more, e.g. those who like me have the necessary control in netplwiz.exe Advanced tab greyed out.

As a temporary workaround, one can disable the lock screen (not sign in screen) completely using Group Policy or regedit:

Does anyone know if this is fixed in future builds of Windows 10?  I stopped being a windows insider after build 10240 shipped.

I have the same issue, Hp laptop- everything up to date. why does microsoft always make these weird and completely useless things that nobody asked for?

This feels like when they removed automatic insert for spell check in Word 2013, everybody hated it, they could have made it optional but they completely deleted it without any real reason-they knew it was stupid and could gave offered a patch or update people could download if they wanted to but no- They Kept On Ignoring It.

The start button on windows 8 is like the fastest they've actually fixed their misstake. you know someone at the top still think that was a super awersome idea. like 'I dont get it, I never use the start button or desktop on my tablet, why are people so upset..?'

Just fix the darn bug!

Also have this issue. If I lock the computer manually either through the Start Menu or Win+L, I can slide up the lock screen with my keyboard. However when I wake it from sleep, I cannot and I am forced to clicking the lock screen to get it to slide up. Annoying.

Hi. This is happening to me too. Up-to-date Windows 10, and I have my Ozone Strike Pro keyboard connected to one of the USB 3.0 ports.
