Offline Files - How to reset entirely

Question

Friday, May 6, 2016 9:14 AM

Guys I'm having serious traumas with offline files in windows 10.

If we set up a brand new build of win10 the first user has zero issues with offline files.

Any subsequent user will have major issues connecting to any folder added to the sync schedule,  it essentially prevents them from connecting to the live folder showing an error that the folder does not exist.

If i disable offline files the live folder becomes miraculously available again.

I have used the article describing how to format the offline files cache and database both by registry editir and by manually clearing the csc folder but as soon as we re enable offline files the live folder becomes unavailable.

What I want know is a command or procedure to completely reinitialize the offline files just like we were able to do in XP vista and win7 and if this does not exist, why the hell not as its invaluable to fixing many issues.

Hi Halikus,

Are there any error messages recorded in the "Sync Center" or in the Event Viewer?

We could take the following steps to clear the offline cache.

  1. Located to C:\Windows\CSC
  2. To access this folder, you need take ownership firstly.
  3. Right-click CSC folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
  5. Click Edit. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  6. Click the name of the person you want to give ownership to.
  7. .If you want that person to be the owner of files and subfolders in this folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Then clear all content in this folder.

If the issue persists, we could try to reset the tcp/ip stack to have a troubleshoot.
ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)
Reboot

Best regards
