Printer redirection uses MS Publisher Imagesetter as a driver

Question

Tuesday, June 23, 2015 2:00 PM

When I connect to my Windows 2008 R2 Server with Mac (using Remote Desktop Client) with printer redirection enabled, the server uses the MS Publisher Imagesetter driver instead of the printer driver installed on Mac (I installed the Windows counterpart of the driver on the server).

I did some testing using Parallels 2X RDP and the server - as expected - uses the "HP Color Laserjet 2800 Series PS".

The performance difference between these two drivers is huge with any print larger than 2 pages.

How can I instruct the MS Remote Desktop Client to use a different driver when redirecting printers?

Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,

this feature is not supported with our product.

Hi Dan,

RDP will not use your host side driver in remote side. Have a try to install a Windows version driver for your printer on your Windows 2008 R2.

Thanks Shaon,

I know. Infact, the first thing I did was installing the driver on the server. This is the standard procedure.

The problem here it that the Microsoft official RDP client for Mac isn't working as it should.

I'm here just to ask someone if there is a way to configure the printer redirection behavior of the RDP client for Mac.

A third party Mac Rdp client is working better, but I would really prefer using the official and supported Microsoft rdp client.

I removed MS Publisher Imagesetter driver - now it is completely missing from server 2012 r2 - it's not available in the add driver function of print server.

Where can I get the driver???? Non of our Macs are forwarding printers anymore.
