Question

This only occurs on our network share and not the users actual local machine. How can we stop this from happening???? Our users are getting annoyed deleting a bunch of these .tmp files on a daily.......... And our users have the option "Hide hidden folders" turn on. So it's not this......

Hi,
According to your descriptions, I have two questions:
1. Have your users created, opened or saved the files in folder on your network shared? If so, please check your users’ permission. Right click the folder > properties > security, make sure that your users have full control rights to the folder, such as Modify. In general, the .tmp files will be deleted automatically when close the Office files.
2. Was the network shared path mapped to users’ computers? If so, please try to disconnect the network drive temporarily to have a check.
Meanwhile, please try to update the anti-virus software or withdraw it temporarily. Sometimes the anti-virus software will cause this problem when scan files.
I find a similar thread Excel automatically create .tmp file when open after close Excel, tmp file still there, maybe you could refer to it.
If you have any updates, please feel free to let me know.
Best Regards,
Emily

1) This is happening on the user's very own personal private folder on our network share. Their username has Modify/Read & Execute/List folder contents/Read/Write/Special permissions. Does it need to be completely FULL PERMISSIONS options in order to stop this from happening? Tons of .tmp files being create but never ever automatically delete themselves.
2) The network share was not mapped to their computer. I need to double check on this with the user. But what does mapping a drive do? This would cause .tmp files to get created through the folder that they mapped to their computers?

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I am confused about “own personal private folder”, have you re-directed user’s profile to network share? Please search %temp% on user’s computer to check the location of Temp folder, local computer or user’s personal folder on network share? There are some .tmp files indeed in the Temp folder.
If the Temp folder is not user’s personal folder, does user save files under the same path of these .tmp files on shared folder?
I would like to suggest you edit user’s permission, check the box of full control to have a check. In general, the Office applications will delete their temporary files when users exit the Office applications. However, these temporary files might be left if Word hangs, if you exit the program abnormally, or if you left large number of items in the Clipboard when you exited the program.
In addition, if the network share was not mapped to their computer, please ignore this. But is there any antivirus on user’s computers? If so, please withdraw it temporarily to check if the problem exists.
Best Regards,
Emily

Sorry for the confusion. What I meant by "personal folder" I mean we created each user a private folder on our network share and only that user has access to read and write to their own folder. And this issue isn't even happening to all our users. It's only happening to certain users. For instance within my own team we share a folder among the 4 of us. But this issue is only happening to one of our team members within that folder. I can save things just fine via Office products. But whenever he saves, it generates tons of .tmp files that do not disappear. And he doesn't have any clipboard items and his office doesn't shut down or close abnormally.
