Win 10 Bitlocker - no longer shows progress bar during encryption

We rebuild our pool (loan) Windows 10 laptops after every return, and once built & setup we run Bitlocker to encrypt the C drive. Up to last week, I'd get a bitlocker icon in the task bar when clicked it showed a progress bar, so we had an idea how long it would take.

As of Yesterday that's all changed. No task bar icon, can only check Bitlocker by R/click C drive > Manage Bitlocker
but then it simply tells me "C drive encrypting" with no indication of how far along it is or how long it'll take.

Hoping this isn't 'the new way' as it'll be a major PITA to my team.

To answer this, I guess first I would try to reproduce that "problem". What windows 10 version are you on, read it out using the command

winver

--

By the way: you can use an elevated command prompt to read out the progress:

manage-bde -status x:

(x: being the drive letter of the encrypted drive)

Winver returns: Ver 1511, build 10586. 753

Sorry, I don't have access to such an old version. 1511 is 2 major updates behind (no worries) but also several cumulative updates behind (worries!) - see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4000824

Please update it and retry.

Sorry, my bad. I did winver on a laptop that's currently building, and in the process of installing a pile of updates. I'll update this thread later once it's finished, that'll be the same version as yesterday's one.

Hi Jay,

The latest version now is 1703, the build number is 15063.296.

On my 1703 machine, when I turn on BitLocker on my E partition the progress bar appears normally, you could upgrade to this version to check again.

Make sure your using an administrator account. I had this same issue but was using a non privilege user. When I switched user during a drive encryption to my admin account the encryption status came up. I'm running the most current version of windows 10 Pro.
