Critical Event IDs 79 and 80, Source Appmodel-runtime, "runtime information is corrupted"

Question

Saturday, August 12, 2017 6:39 PM | 1 vote

Periodically I receive multiple Critical Event ID's 79 and 80.  I have not noticed any issues with my computer other than the Critical errors in event viewer - i.e. no lockups, Blue Screens, slowdown, etc.  The referenced App changes for the entries, i.e one day it is the Photos App, the next time it is Maps, or Microsoft OneConnect.  However, most often it is Photos.

I really do not like critical errors, as I suspect failing hardware, and data loss.   I have done extensive web searches on Critical Event IDs 79 and 80 and have not found anything. I have preformed SFC, and APP reset with no help. Can anyone here help?

The text of the Events are:

Well the message that stands out to me is 'runtime information is corrupted' so to me is saying the files are corrupted or perhaps the config \ registration of the apps is corrupted.

Have you run a chkdsk to check the disk and make sure that is ok?

Do you open Maps or Photo do they open?

Thanks for the reply.  I have ran every diagnostic, and troubleshooters, including chkdsk, that I can think of.  All come back clean.  All of the Apps that kick out the events open, and seam to run normal. I do not use the apps often.

Except for the fact that the events are marked as critical, I would probably ignore the events.

It does seam strange that apparently I am the only one experiencing these exact events as I have searched the web many times and have not found any other examples.  Lots of "error" events, but no "Critical" events.

Is there anywhere else, beside the event viewer where I should look for additional clues?

Should I try to uninstall and re-install all the apps using powershell?

Agree odd perhaps see posts with errors for the app but not critical events. I would first try resetting them via Start > Settings > Apps, find each affected app in the list, click it to select it. Choose Advanced option then Reset see if that helps.

I found the same events (4 on the same day) in my event log from some month ago, only for the  Microsoft.WindowsFeedbackHub_8wekyb3d8bbwe
but they did not return.
The App is currently working (but unusable... thats a different story).
So I can ignore this.

Bah clicked the wrong button, just want to say if the Feedback app is not running you want to report that in the Feedback app :D

Did you solve the problem? I've got a quite similar today, but it's the WindowsAlarms package instead of the WindowsMaps package.

Sorry for not replying sooner.  Have been digging out from hurricane Irma.

I have not found a solution to this issue.  For me the critical errors occur shortly after the Windows Store updates the App.  I have "temporarily" stopped the errors by resetting the app.   I have 2 user profiles set up and I have to reset the app in each profile.  This has stopped the errors from repeating  for as many a 3 weeks, but then another app is updated and I start receiving the errors on that app.  Not every Windows Store Update causes the error.  It seams to be pretty random to me.

Again, I have not observed any negative effects of the errors, other that the event viewer log.  The apps seem to run correctly, and I have not found any actual data loss or corruption.

I have the same problem with several PCs. Problem started with 1703 and is still a problem after upgrading to 1709. It appears to occur after any updates to Windows and the Events stop after a period of time.

0X3D55: Package family Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe.

SFC and DISM do not find any errors and CHKDSK does not find any bad data

Same here, found a series of those critical errors regarding MicrosoftOfficeHub today , an app I never used in my life. :-/ Would be nice to here something from Microsoft regarding this. Why is it considered critical? Can a simple app cause critical system events? That sounds worrying since they should not dig so deep in the system at all. Wish I could de-activate all those app-nonsense in Windows, would save a lot of troubles. :-(((

Greetings,

Ron.

I have the same exact critical error code as well.

Wednesday, October 31, 2018 2:46 AM

I get this error, too.  On over 35 pcs on our domain.  All Windows 10 Pro 1709.  Have used powershell to remove a number of the apps.  Users not signed into store.

I used to see 79 and 80 Critical Events, after the 1803 update I only see 79s

This problem was initially reported over a year and 2 Windows 10 updates ago - what is Microsoft doing to fix this problem?

I just read a news article about Windows 10 update deleting documents and pictures! So I was checking into it on y laptop, discovered the only User Windows(C) is me. No Administrator, No Guest User... I then went to Event User and I have the same Critical Error Event 79 same problem. I rarely use my laptop, and have 100 of this event for today. I don't know how long I've had this issue.. I really don't know Windows 10; pretty much stopped after XP.

Getting the same errors primarily for MICROSOFT.WHITEBOARD_8WEKYB3D8BBWE. As far as I know it started with 1809. I also lost all my manually added startmenu tiles. Not sure if this is related.

The same for me. It has started with Hyper-V not able to start. So I have checked the event log to see what caused the error and I see several errors 79 with different silly packages like for instance:

 Microsoft.WindowsCalculator_8wekyb3d8bbwe

etc. I do not use calculator and I do not believe something is really corrupted.

i have this from a trusted source. Virtual stuff, Problem I have is I found it doesn't work for 64bit .

Virtual Rom Control Panel. I was told that certain Windows 10 builds didn't include The Virtual program itself, like the Driver needed to run it. I put the VCdRom sys driver in opened it, but Windows 10 refuded to load it. But the OS did get the "programming" itself.
