There was an attempt to roll Windows 10 back to Windows 7. That resulted in a computer that could not boot even in safe mode and one where the Startup repair could not fix the problem yet the Startup repair log did not show any errors.

Tested the hard drive once with Dell Diagnostics. Tried to run Seagate Dos Tools but the Seagate could not see the drive. Took the drive and put it in another computer and ran Seagate Dos Tools successfully. I did look at %temp% but since I had the drive in another computer, I could not look at the contents. I imagine there is a way to gain control but I already know that task scheduler not running is why Office would not install.

At this point it was decided best thing was to reformat the drive, then install Windows 10 and Office 2016.

Hi,

What's the detailed error message when you install Office 2016? Please also tell us the detailed version of Office 2016 you installed currently, volume licensed version of Office 2016 or one-time purchased click-to-run version of Office 2016?

Also open Control Panel > Programs and Features, check the program list, confirm if there is any other Office app listed there. Please provide more information about current scenario for further troubleshooting.

Best Regards,
Winnie Liang

The only message that is seen is Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 encountered an error during setup.

The version is volume licensed version of Office 2016.

Please make sure there is no Office 365 version of Office installed on current computer. You can use the Easy fix tool in the following article to uninstall all Office apps:
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/uninstall-office-from-a-pc-9dd49b83-264a-477a-8fcc-2fdf5dbf61d8

Also go to Task Scheduler > Microsoft > Office > Delete Office folder.

Reboot Windows, then try to install volume licensed Office 2016 again. If the issue persists, please collect the setup logs in %Temp% folder for further analysis.

No Office version shows in control panel, programs and features. (Don’t I also have to clear out the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft Visual C++ as well?)

I reran the o155-ctrremove.diagcab for the third time. The program wanted a reboot. Program said it could not fine Office.

Not sure where Task Scheduler > Microsoft > Office is.

A search on Internet came up with Tasks are stored in C:\Windows\System32\Tasks.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2913816/how-to-find-the-location-of-the-scheduled-tasks-folder

Decided to rename Office in c:\windows\system32\tasks to Officeold.

Rebooted computer.

Reran install program.

What do I find in %temp%?

Talked to Microsoft Office support. He ran diagnostics and says Office will not install because task scheduler is not running.

Hi,

How about the issue currently? About the setup log, please go to %temp% folder in File Explorer. Then find the log name started with SetupExe(201811xxxxxx).log.

You can share the complete setup log to us via GBSD TN Office Information Collection [email protected]. We would open the setup file for further analysis. Please involve the thread URL in the email message for easy follow-up :)

It seems the issue is related to your drive. You can try to reformat the drive in your scenario and install Office 2016 to check it.

If there is any further issue, feel free to let us know or open a new case for more discussion.
