WinPE 10 - “Failed to find valid Network adapter” for Intel I219 Ethernet Adapter

Question

I've read (via Google) some issues with the Intel I219 Ethernet Adapter resulting in the “Failed to find valid Network adapter” error (prior to any of the OSD screens appearing).  Apparently manual injection works, but not automatic injection for the Intel I219.  When it gives the failure message, we do an F8 to command prompt in WinPE 10, "drvload" the driver's .inf file, and a "wpeutil initializenetwork".  IPCONFIG then confirms the successful manual driver load & acquiring of an IP via DHCP.  We have the latest Intel I219 Ethernet Adapter (actually shows as I217, but compatible for I218 and I219) in our WinPE 10 boot image, and use the same driver to manually inject.

eg. https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1548158-wds-and-intel-i219-lm-driver-for-boot-wim

We're using SCCM 2012 R2 with WinPE 10.  Has anyone seen a good satisfying resolution yet?

Anyway to resuming booting from the USB/Disc, via the F8 command prompt?

Thanks

Intel network drivers have always been a bit tricky to handle correctly with SCCM ever since the 82579-LM drivers appeared, but the trick, personally I find, is to ensure you are working with EXACTLY and ONLY the Intel network driver you need and not a driver which purports to be valid for multiple OS versions.

If you haven't done so already, you should download the latest Intel Network Drivers (v22.1) appropriate to the architecture of your Win10 boot image from here;

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25016/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10

Extract the contents and you will find in the PRO1000 folder a set of NDIS folders.  You should copy up the drivers from the NDIS65 (Win10) folder to a new driver sources folder on your server.

After importing, remove any existing Intel Network card drivers in your boot image and inject all of these latest Intel Drivers in there.

Hope that helps, usually works for me!

Unfortunately, for this one, SCCM only displays the name as I217, even though the driver also supports the I218 and I219.

What's the best way to remove drivers from our boot image?  We created a Driver Package named WinPE10 for all of the Win PE 10 drivers.  The options for the drivers listed in our driver package are to Disable, Delete, or Edit > Boot Images.

Might need some documentation for the "Edit > Boot Images" option, and do the changes take effect immediately?

Thanks

This resumes booting from the USB/Disc:

D:\sms\bin\x64\TsmBootstrap.exe /env:WinPE /configpath:D:\sms\data
