Question

Hi,
I've just succesfully upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 yesterday on two laptops. However, I have noticed that when I'm working with virtual desktops and using Ctrl + Win + Left / Right shortcut, there is no "slide" animation between my desktops - it just immediately displays the other one. The transition between desktops is working fine on my second laptop. How can I resolve that?

Press Win+X and select System.
Click on advanced system settings.
On Advanced TAB click on performance settings.
On Performance Options - Visual Effects, make sure you have "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" checked.
Apply and be happy.

Hi Flaszer,
Have you tried to click the "Task View" to switch the virtual desktop?
We could try to configure the following settings to have a check.
Settings\System\Multitasking\Pressing Alt+Tab shows windows that are open on.
Best regards

Hi MeipoXu,
Yes, I have tried that as well and the issue remains the same - it just suddenly displays other desktop.
What exactly do you mean by configuring settings?

Hi Flaszer,
Try the "Win+Tab" to have a check.
According to my test, "Win+Ctrl+left Arrow" will switch the desktop directly. "Win+Tab" will show the desktop animation.
Best regards

Thanks. I managed to fix that by making a clean install of Windows 10.

NOTE: Checking the option "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" DOES in fact toggle the sliding animation on & off when switching between desktops, though the name of the option in no way suggests this. Bigous-SP probably should have mentioned this fact in the answer, since as-is it just looks like (s)he misunderstood the question.

Hi, got the same situation with desktops even when "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing" was checked.
Fixed by unchecking, clicking "Apply" and then checking back and applying once more.

Should work if its not already checked (which usually it is by default)
@Kornulious figured it out, though:
"Fixed by unchecking, clicking "Apply" and then checking back and applying once more."

Thank you! Unchecking, applying, and rechecking is what solved it for me.

Hallo,
i have the same problem with animation. if i do "Unchecking, applying, and rechecking" it will solve the problem, but just for this session. If i reboot windows, it will not work again. so i have to do "Unchecking, applying, and rechecking"after every power up. this can not be normal :)
maybe someone has solution what will work every time. thanks.
EDIT:
i found the reason for this issue... it was "citrix ica client". now i deactived it in autostart and animations are working also after reboot the system.
