Outlook Closes Automatically -- No error message or repeatable action to test

Question

Thursday, August 2, 2018 1:28 PM

Outlook closes on me... Sometimes, and not in a definite way. But it seems like it is related to specific messages.

A colleague sent me a message, then...

I write full reply (3-4 minutes of typing), outlook closes. (Note:Draft not saved)

I click reply, outlook closes.

I start typing a reply (a few seconds), outlook closes.

I use the scrollbar to see previous messages in the conversation, outlook closes.

This time it worked and I was able to send it.

Whats weird is that sometimes the action that caused Outlook to close will not cause Outlook to close another time.

I have disabled all non-microsoft COM addins.

Hi Thomas,

Is this a recently occurred issue after any updates to Windows or Office?
Does this problem affect other users in your environment?

Please try repairing Office via Control Panel and see if there is any improvement.

If the issue persists, it is suggested to try creating a new Outlook profile to check the result. This helps eliminate whether the problem is related to a corrupt profile.

Hope this can be helpful.

Yuki Sun

Hello,

Microsoft Outlook stops functioning and crash when PST data file is corrupted. Since your Outlook closes automatically while working, chance PST file corruption or profile damage is very high.

First of all, try to open Outlook in safe mode to check whether your MS Outlook works properly in safe mode without any add-ins. Still, if it is not resolved, then try to create Outlook profile again or to repair MS Office manually as suggested by Moderator ‘Yuki Sun’. This may help you to fix minor PST file problems easily.

If your Outlook PST file if highly corrupted, these manual solutions would not be that helpful. To is better to repair Outlook PST files using a reliable third-party application like SysTools Outlook PST Repair & Recover Software

Hope this may help you.
Thanks & Regards,
Bruce Anderson
