Hello,

Do you know if/when BGinfo will be updated for Windows 11?

Have you tried run it in the Windows 11?
Does it show incorrect result?
It will read result from the registry and it should display correct information regardless of the version of Windows.

What in specific do you need to be updated in the BGinfo in Windows 11 ?

Windows 11 will have an annual feature update for the production version. The first version of Windows 11 was released in the month of Oct 2021 (Windows 11 21H2) and that is the second half of the year. The next version of Windows 11 will be released 2nd half of the year 2022 (Windows 11 22H2).

I am running it in Windows 11.
It shows OS Version: Windows 10, Service Pack: No service pack.

We use BGinfo to set the desktop background also and that does not work in Win11!

It's not an issue with BGInfo. It's an issue with Windows 11. If you look at the referenced Registry key (\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProductName), you'll see that Windows 11 thinks it's Windows 10.

I read that MS says they never intended these values to be used by anyone/anything so they don't bother updating. Stoopid MS.

I'm looking for a suitable alternate now so if anyone has ideas, I'd like to hear.

Try as workaround a custom WMI like this:

SELECT Version FROM Win32_OperatingSystem

SELECT Caption FROM Win32_OperatingSystem

SELECT Caption FROM Win32_OperatingSystem

I also use this registry entry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DisplayVersion

As You can see on the screenshot:
Windows 10 not Windows 11
And no Service Packs as in Windows 10

So we are waiting to get correct Version of Windows and it would be nice to get information about what specific version (21H1 21H2 and so on).

If you upgrade to BGInfo 4.32 and use the built-in field "OS Version" instead of a custom one, it will properly show "Windows 11". Below is the download location.

I'm using BGInfo 4.33 and it correctly displays "Windows 11" for OS version.
