Microsoft for Startups $25K milestone not applied after 60 days; support contact no longer responds

We are a Swiss startup enrolled in Microsoft for Startups.

On 26 August 2026, the support representative assigned to our case through an external Microsoft service provider wrote, after reviewing our account:

“I have reviewed your account and can see that you started using 5+ qualifying workloads on August 17, 2026.”

The same representative explained that the required workloads had to remain above USD 1 in daily spend for more than 60 continuous days, and that Microsoft’s system would automatically apply the applicable additional Azure credit milestone once the requirements were met.

What we did

  • Maintained at least five qualifying workloads continuously from 17 August through the end of the required period.
  • Deliberately made no changes that could interrupt billing, following the representative’s written guidance.
  • Continued running the workloads after the 60-day period completed around 16–17 October.

What happened instead

  • The USD 25,000 milestone was not applied.
  • The Azure subscription changed from Sponsored to Pay-As-You-Go without prior notice.
  • Commercial charges are now accruing every day.
  • The official Microsoft for Startups Program Support route is no longer accessible from our account.
  • The assigned contact at the external Microsoft support provider no longer responds, despite repeated follow-ups before and after the milestone date.
  • Separate Azure Support and billing contacts have not produced a substantive resolution or a new program owner.

We are not asking the public community to access private account data. We need a Microsoft moderator or Microsoft for Startups Program Operations representative to route this matter to the correct internal owner and clarify:

  1. Does conversion from Sponsored to Pay-As-You-Go after sponsorship credits are consumed invalidate milestone progress already accumulated under the program?
  2. Can Microsoft provide the milestone evaluation and, if it was considered unmet, identify the exact workload, date, and measured daily amount that caused the failure?
  3. If the requirements were met, can the USD 25,000 milestone be applied retroactively and the resulting Pay-As-You-Go charges be credited?
  4. Who can assign a replacement owner and restore access to the official Microsoft for Startups support channel?

We have the complete email history, support-case references, daily cost exports, and screenshots available privately to Microsoft. We have intentionally not posted subscription identifiers or other confidential account data here.

Please do not redirect us to the same Program Support route: that route is precisely what is no longer available to our account. We are requesting an internal escalation and a named owner.

    Hello Raoul,

The current Microsoft for Startups documentation confirms the published requirements for the USD 25,000 milestone:

    • At least five qualifying Azure workloads must be active for 60 continuous days.
    • Each workload must remain above USD 1 in spend throughout those 60 days.
    • If the count falls below five on any day, the continuous qualification period is not completed.
    • Once the requirements are met, the account is supposed to be evaluated automatically.

The documentation also says that if Milestone 3 is not achieved within 180 days of business verification, the sponsorship can be canceled and the subscription converted to Pay-As-You-Go.

However, the public documentation does not state that conversion to Pay-As-You-Go automatically erases milestone progress already accumulated. It also does not provide a community-accessible way to inspect the daily workload calculation, apply credits retroactively, reverse charges, or appoint a replacement program owner. Those are account-specific actions that require Microsoft for Startups Program Operations or an authorized billing/support team.

Since the normal Startups support route is unavailable, I recommend opening an Azure support request under Billing or Subscription management, rather than submitting another general community request. Include:

    • The original Microsoft for Startups case number.
    • The representative’s written confirmation of the August 17 start date.
    • Daily cost exports showing each of the five workloads remained over USD 1.
    • The date of conversion from Sponsored to Pay-As-You-Go.
    • The accrued Pay-As-You-Go charges.
    • A request for the exact workload/day that the evaluation considered nonqualifying.
    • A request to route the case to Microsoft for Startups Program Operations and review retroactive application of the milestone and associated charges.

Do not post subscription IDs, invoices, or case correspondence publicly.

Only the program team can confirm the account’s measurement and authorize credits, but the evidence described should allow them to reproduce the 60-day evaluation.
