Azure for Students verification succeeded, but subscription was not provisioned (Stuck in Microsoft Services tenant F8CDEF31-A31E-4B4A-93E4-5F571E91255A with AADSTS16000)

I verified my academic status using my university email, and received "Congratulations! Your academic status has been successfully verified." However, the system failed to provision a standalone tenant/subscription for my personal account, leaving it trapped in the default Microsoft Services tenant (f8cdef31-a31e-4b4a-93e4-5f571e91255a). Retrying signup gives "Unable to complete Azure for Students verification" and Help + Support is blocked by error AADSTS16000. Please help provision the directory and attach my approved Azure for Students subscription.

Hi Abdullah Diaa Al-Din Nabil Kamel & thx for join me at Q&A platform,

think there are two separate issues here, and it's important not to confuse them.

First, the Microsoft Services tenant (f8cdef31-a31e-4b4a-93e4-5f571e91255a) isn't necessarily evidence of a failed Azure for Students provisioning process. Personal Microsoft accounts can encounter this tenant when they don't have access to an Azure directory of their own. Being redirected there doesn't prove that your student subscription was created or that it needs to be manually attached to a new tenant.

Second, successful academic verification doesn't confirm that Azure for Students subscription provisioning completed. It only confirms that the academic verification step succeeded. The subsequent eligibility and subscription creation steps can still fail.

The AADSTS16000 error is also worth separating from the original registration failure. It generally indicates an account or identity selection problem during authentication. In your case, it may explain why you can't access Help + Support, but it doesn't establish the root cause of the Azure for Students activation failure.

I'd avoid manually creating a new Entra tenant or repeatedly attempting registration with different accounts. Neither is a reliable fix for an incomplete student subscription activation.

You can try one clean sign-in using the exact personal Microsoft account associated with your original Azure for Students registration, making sure you don't accidentally select your university-managed account. If you still get the verification error, I wouldn't spend more time troubleshooting browser sessions.

This needs an Azure subscription activation investigation on Microsoft's side. Specifically, support should check whether your academic verification was associated with the intended Microsoft account, whether a student entitlement was issued, and whether subscription provisioning failed or was blocked by an eligibility check.

You don't need to purchase a paid technical support plan for an account or subscription activation issue. If the Azure portal won't let you create a support request because of AADSTS16000, ask a Microsoft Q&A moderator to help route the case through the Azure subscription/signup support channel.

Include the exact registration error, your sign-in error, UTC timestamps, and any available correlation or request IDs. Don't post account identifiers or verification documents publicly, did you receive an actual "Welcome to Azure for Students" email confirming the $100 credit, or only the academic verification success message?

That distinction matters because it helps identify whether the process stopped before or after the student subscription activation stage.

    rgds,

    Alex
