Hello Microsoft Support,

I am a student at P. R. Pote Patil College of Engineering & Management, Amravati, India.

I am trying to activate Azure for Students using my official college email address. However, I receive the error: "Your email domain is not currently registered with us. You can choose another verification method."

Additionally, the School Name field clears automatically when I type my college name, and the Verify academic status button remains disabled.

Could you please help me verify my academic status or advise me on an alternative verification method?

Thank you.

Apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack using your college email and enrollment evidence, then redeem its Microsoft Azure benefit; this is the most directly matched alternative when Azure does not recognize an institution’s email domain.^1^

    Redeem through GitHub Education

    1. Open GitHub Education and apply for the Student Developer Pack.
    2. Use your official college email address and submit the requested proof, such as:
      • Current student ID
      • Enrollment letter
      • Other current enrollment evidence
    3. After approval, open your GitHub Education benefits page.
    4. Find the Microsoft Azure benefit and start its Azure for Students redemption flow.
    5. Choose Sign in with GitHub when offered. Ensure the college email is verified on the GitHub account and matches the academic identity used during verification.^1^

This route has been recommended in an accepted Microsoft Q&A answer for the same “email domain is not currently registered” error. Another matching case reports GitHub verification with student ID or enrollment documentation as the workaround when direct domain verification is unavailable.^2^

If GitHub verification or Azure redemption fails

Submit an account/subscription sign-up support request and ask Microsoft to review the academic-domain verification issue. Microsoft does not publicly document a guaranteed manual document-upload route for every Azure for Students applicant, so support must confirm which review option is available for your case.

Use the public Azure Support Options page and select Submit a support request.^3^ In the form, choose the closest available category to Subscription management or Account/Subscription signup, because category names can vary.

    Include:

    • The exact error text
    • Your institution’s full name and country
    • Only the college email domain in the description, rather than posting your full email publicly
    • A screenshot showing the cleared School Name field and disabled verification button
    • Confirmation that the mailbox is active
    • Enrollment evidence if support requests it
    • Details of any failed GitHub Education redemption, if applicable

If using the Azure portal support flow, select ? in the global header, describe the issue, and then select Create a support request. This portal route may require access to an existing subscription with the Owner, Contributor, or Support Request Contributor role; if no subscription exists because sign-up is blocked, use the public Azure Support Options entry point instead.^4^

    Institution-level fallback

Ask the college IT or administration team to contact its Microsoft education representative or partner channel about registering or reviewing the institution’s academic email domain. This is institution-level work rather than something an individual student can fix through DNS or Azure tenant settings.

Azure for Students requires full-time attendance at an eligible degree-granting institution and academic-status verification through the institution’s email address.^5^ Therefore, a personal Gmail, Outlook, or other public email address is not a substitute for the college-issued address.

The automatically cleared school field and disabled button should be documented in the support request; repeatedly changing browsers or requesting verification is not the primary next step for this domain-recognition error.
