How can I remove Track Changes from opening when I open a new document? This is a new development with the updated version 16.112.4. I have tried to look for a fix to no avail. Please advise.

Hi challenged,If Word for Mac is opening documents with Track Changes already enabled, the behavior may be related to a document template, a saved preference, or a recent application configuration change.

You can try the following quick checks:

    1. Open Word and create a new blank document.
    2. Go to the Review tab and confirm whether Track Changes is turned on.
    3. If enabled, turn it off and save the document.
    4. Restart Word and create another new document to see if the setting persists.

    If the issue continues:

    • Start Word in a clean state by temporarily creating a new document from a different template.
    • Check whether the behavior occurs with all documents or only specific files.
    • Ensure Word is updated to the latest available version for your Mac.

If Track Changes continues to activate automatically across all new documents, this may help determine whether the behavior is tied to a template or a Word preference rather than an individual document.

I hope these steps help narrow down the cause. If you can share whether this happens with all new documents or only certain files, the community may be able to suggest more targeted troubleshooting.
