An Azure service that provides an event-driven serverless compute platform.
Hello @Arun Kumar Singh
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q & A !
As of September 18, 2026, the published Microsoft Learn documentation lists PowerShell 7.6 as Preview for Azure Functions. The PowerShell developer guide specifically states that PowerShell 7.6 requires .NET 10 and is Windows only.
This distinction is important for Flex Consumption because Flex Consumption is a Linux-based hosting plan. The currently published Flex Consumption supported language stack table lists PowerShell 7.4 as the supported PowerShell version.
Therefore, the general PowerShell 7.6 Preview documentation should not by itself be interpreted as confirming PowerShell 7.6 Preview or GA support on Flex Consumption.
Regarding the East US result:
az functionapp list-flexconsumption-runtimes --runtime powershell --location eastus
If this command returns PowerShell 7.6 with "default": true, it shows that the regional runtime-discovery API is returning 7.6 as the default for East US. However, "default": true should not by itself be treated as confirmation that PowerShell 7.6 is GA on Flex Consumption.
The currently published Microsoft documentation therefore shows:
- Azure Functions PowerShell 7.6: Preview, Windows only, requires .NET 10.
- Flex Consumption: Linux based.
- PowerShell version documented for Flex Consumption: PowerShell 7.4.
- East US: The reported CLI result exposes PowerShell 7.6 as the default, but the published Learn documentation does not currently explain this discrepancy or establish PowerShell 7.6 as a supported GA version for Flex Consumption.
For other regions, the runtime-discovery command should be run with the specific region rather than assuming the East US result applies globally.
