Problems with School Data Sync

I have been troubleshooting for two days. Running school data sync to create Teams classes for our teachers. I have the correct data, going into SDS and it creates the correct classes according to the group report but it is not creating the correct classes/groups in Entra. The teams classes names are truncating and that causes the classes to combine. For example, what should be PSS-MEN--10-01_26-27 and PSS-MEN--10-02_26-27 are truncating to MEN--10. This then combines all members from each of those classes into the single MEN--10.

I don't know why this is happening. Help!

    Hi Anita,

According to School Data Sync FAQ - School Data Sync | Microsoft Learn, the School Data Sync report is generating the correct, distinct data for both PSS-MEN--10-01_26-27 and PSS-MEN--10-02_26-27. However, the groups actually created in Microsoft Entra are merging into one. This points to the identifier used to create the groups not being unique between the two sections, even though the names display correctly in the sync report itself.

For this issue, you should verify 2 things:

    • Comparing the raw section identifiers coming from the SIS export for these two sections to pinpoint where the overlap occurs
    • Reviewing the naming convention configuration in the Sync Profile to confirm how class names are being mapped

Given the nature of the problem, the most effective next step is reaching out to Microsoft Support through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with your admin credentials for a live session, personalized assistance to resolve this issue. This route ensures that a Microsoft support engineer can initiate a remote session to investigate backend configurations, run advanced diagnostic tools. These backend resources are essential for resolving issues that go beyond what’s visible in the user interface.

I hope this helps you resolve the issue quickly. I’m glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.
