Sending multimedia content and documents within chat conversations in Microsoft Teams
A common current cause is a Teams desktop client issue where the right-click Paste option is greyed out or not working, even though pasting itself still works with the keyboard shortcut.
Try these checks and workarounds:
- Use Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot instead of right-click Paste.
This is the documented workaround for the current Teams paste issue. - If that still fails, try attaching the image instead:
In the chat, select Actions and apps > Attach file and upload the screenshot from the device. - On mobile, use the Photo icon next to the compose box to attach a picture.
- If images are not displaying after sending, check these basic client issues:
- Use the Teams web app to compare behavior.
- Check for Teams updates from the profile picture menu.
- Clear the Teams cache.
- If the problem happens only in certain chats, feature availability can depend on the chat type. For example:
- Group chat images are supported only in group chats, not meeting chats or 1:1 chats.
- In some Teams Free chats between personal and organization accounts, photo and file capabilities are limited depending on who started the chat.
If the issue is specifically that right-click paste stopped working recently, that matches the known Teams desktop issue. If Ctrl + V also fails in only some chats, the chat type or policy restrictions are more likely.
