A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data
Hi,
As the forum’s AI recommended, when pasting a range, select only the upper-left destination cell rather than preselecting a differently sized range.
However, the screenshot does not show an error message, so the cause cannot yet be determined. Could you clarify whether you are trying to copy cell data or duplicate the entire worksheet tab?
If you mean cell data, please try this test:
- Select one unmerged cell containing text or a number and press Ctrl+C.
- Open a new blank workbook, select one blank cell, and press Ctrl+V.
- Repeat the same test in the original worksheet.
If it works in the blank workbook but not in the original worksheet, go to Review and check whether Unprotect Sheet is displayed. If so, the worksheet is protected, which can prevent pasting into locked cells. Only unprotect it if you have the required permission or password.
If the same copy-and-paste problem occurs in every workbook and you are using Excel for Windows:
- Press Windows+R.
- Enter excel /safe, and select OK.
- Test copying and pasting again.
If it works in Safe Mode, something not loaded in Safe Mode, such as an add-in or Excel customization, may be involved.
