    Hello Penelope,

The Canon TS3600 series supports scanning, but the function depends on having the correct driver and utility installed on your computer. Printing works because the basic printer driver is already in place, but scanning requires the Canon IJ Scan Utility. Without it, the printer cannot initiate a scan to the PC.

First, confirm that you have installed the full driver package from Canon’s support site, not just the print driver. The package includes the IJ Scan Utility, which is located under C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\IJ Scan Utility\SCANUTILITY.exe. Launching this application should allow you to scan directly from the computer.

If you want to scan by pressing the button on the printer itself, you need to configure the scan destination in the Canon IJ Scan Utility. Open the utility, go to Settings, and under “Scan from the Operation Panel,” set your computer as the target. If this is not configured, the printer will not know where to send the scanned file.

Also, ensure that Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running. You can check this by opening services.msc, locating “Windows Image Acquisition (WIA),” and confirming it is set to Automatic. If this service is stopped, scanning will fail even if the drivers are installed.

If you are using Windows 11, you can also test scanning through the built-in “Windows Scan” app from the Microsoft Store. Once installed, open it and check if the TS3600 is detected as a scanner. If it appears there, scanning should work without issue.

I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!HP.

If printing works but scanning does not, the most effective Windows steps are to remove and reinstall the printer/scanner, then update or reinstall the driver.

    1. Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    2. Select the TS3600 device and choose Remove device.
    3. Restart the PC.
    4. Go back to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    5. Select Add a printer or scanner and wait for Windows to find the device, then select Add device.
      • If the device is connected by USB and is not added automatically, reconnect the USB cable to an available USB port and turn on the printer.
      • If it is wireless, make sure the PC and printer are on the same network.
    6. If the printer/scanner is still not working, open Device Manager > expand Printers > right-click the printer > Update driver.
    7. If no driver update is found, select Uninstall device, restart the computer, and let Windows reinstall the driver.

If the scanner option is still missing after reinstalling, Windows may not have the correct full printer/scanner software installed. A similar resolved case reported that scanning started working after the printer software was properly installed.
