Moving the Taskbar

Unfortunately, Windows 11 originally removed the ability to move the taskbar to the left, right, or top of the screen. Unlike Windows 10, where the taskbar could be positioned on any edge of the display, the redesigned Windows 11 taskbar was initially limited to the bottom of the screen. As a result, there is no supported built-in setting in those versions of Windows 11 that allows a vertical taskbar on either side of the display.

For many users, taskbar placement is more than a personal preference. It becomes part of how they navigate and interact with their computer efficiently and comfortably. And I completely understand why this change would be frustrating, especially when it affects a workflow you've relied on every day since Windows 7.

Microsoft has explained that the taskbar was rebuilt as part of the Windows 11 redesign, and some legacy customization options were not included in the new implementation. While the goal was to modernize the experience, feedback from many users has shown that features such as taskbar repositioning are important for productivity, accessibility, and established work habits.

The encouraging news is that Microsoft has been listening to customer feedback on this topic. Taskbar customization continues to be one of the most requested personalization features, and Microsoft has acknowledged user demand for additional taskbar positioning options.

If your current Windows 11 build does not include a Taskbar Position setting, there is unfortunately no Microsoft-supported method to move the taskbar to the right side of the screen at this time. Some users choose to use third-party tools such as ExplorerPatcher, StartAllBack, or Start11. However, these are not Microsoft products and may not be permitted or supported on managed corporate devices.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to submit feedback through Feedback Hub (Windows key + F) and upvote existing suggestions related to taskbar positioning. Customer feedback submitted through Feedback Hub is regularly reviewed and helps Microsoft prioritize future improvements. Your feedback is both valid and valuable.
