Up until recently, both of my Xbox and PS5 controller acts like a mouse on my pc, but it's only on applications such as Spotify, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, etc. I tried disabling and re-enabling the controllers in Device Manager, it works only for a short period a time and once the pc locks and goes back into sleep mode the controllers go back to acting like a mouse again. Pls help

    Welcome ✦MOONIEE ✦,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Q&A.

To better understand the issue, could you please confirm:

    • Are the controllers connected through Bluetooth, USB cable, or a wireless adapter?
    • Do both the Xbox and PS5 controllers show the same behavior?
    • Have you recently installed any controller-mapping software such as Steam Input, DS4Windows, reWASD, or similar tools?

In the meantime, please try these checks:

    • Open Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch and verify that no controller accessibility features are enabled.
    • Open Device Manager and expand Human Interface Devices. Look for entries related to HID-compliant game controller or your controllers. Open Properties > Power Management and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" if available.
    • Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do and temporarily disable Turn on fast startup (recommended), then restart the PC.
    • Test whether the issue still occurs after a clean restart (not waking from sleep). This will help determine whether the behavior is specifically triggered when Windows resumes from sleep.
