My camera on my Lenovo Thinkpad is very blurry, it also appears blurry on Zoom video, as well. I have tried to correct this problem using so many online suggestions, still not corrected. If you have a solution I would really appreciate the help. I have been working on this problem all week. Many thanks

Have you tried cleaning the lens (according to Lenovo's instructions)?

Hi Eileen,

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially after you have already spent a week trying different suggestions.

Could you please confirm the exact model of your Lenovo ThinkPad and whether the image is also blurry in the built-in Windows Camera app?

In Windows 11, please open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras, select the integrated camera, and check whether controls such as Sharpness, Brightness, or Contrast are available. If they are, restore them to their default values or adjust the sharpness while monitoring the preview.

I also recommend checking Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates for any available camera driver update. If none is offered, download and reinstall the camera driver for your exact ThinkPad model from Lenovo Support, then restart the computer and test the Windows Camera app again.

If the image remains blurry in both the Windows Camera app and Zoom after the lens has been cleaned and the correct driver reinstalled, this would suggest that the issue is not limited to Zoom. In that case, Lenovo Support may need to inspect the camera module or lens.

For reference, you can also review Microsoft’s official camera troubleshooting guidance here: Camera doesn’t work in WindowsThank you so much for your understanding.

For a blurry camera on a Lenovo ThinkPad that is also blurry in Zoom, use this order so the cause is isolated quickly:

    1. Check whether a privacy feature is affecting the image.
      • Open the camera shutter if the device has one.
      • On Lenovo devices, open Lenovo Vantage and check the camera or privacy settings.
      • Turn off camera privacy mode.
      • If supported on the device, press the camera privacy shortcut key, often F8, to toggle privacy mode.
    2. Test the camera outside Zoom.
      • Open the Windows Camera app.
      • If the image is blurry there too, the issue is not specific to Zoom.
      • If the Camera app looks normal but Zoom does not, the problem is likely app-specific.
    3. If any background effect or blur is enabled in a video app, turn it off.
      • In apps such as Teams, background blur or effects can hide what the camera is actually showing.
      • Turn off Blur and any background effects, then test again.
    4. If the camera is inconsistent, intermittently detected, or behaves differently between apps, try basic camera driver mode in Windows.
      • Open Settings in Windows.
      • Go to the camera settings for the device.
      • Open Advanced camera options.
      • Enable Basic camera driver mode.
      • Restart the video app and test again.
      • Note: this can disable some manufacturer camera features, but it can improve reliability.
    5. If the image is blurry in the Windows Camera app as well, clean the camera lens and then retest.
    6. If the device is a Lenovo laptop and the issue remains after the steps above, run a Lenovo Vantage hardware scan.
      • In Lenovo Vantage, go to Device > Health & Support.
      • Run a Hardware Scan on the camera.
      • If the scan fails, that points to a hardware problem with the camera module.

For the specific symptom of a Lenovo laptop camera that looks fuzzy across apps, the most relevant checks are Lenovo privacy mode, the physical shutter, testing in the Windows Camera app, and then a Lenovo Vantage hardware scan.
