The plethora of technical information to do with login, passwords, passkeys etc just confuses me even more on what used to be simply resolved in legacy Outlook under W10

    Hi Brian Eastman,

I can understand how frustrating that can feel, especially if the sign-in process was working fine for you previously and you're now being asked to deal with passwords, verification methods, and passkeys.

Could you share a bit more about what happens when you try to sign in? For example:

    • Are you seeing a specific error message or error code?
    • Is this a Microsoft account (personal Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live account) or a work/school account?
    • Are you unable to remember the password, unable to receive verification codes, or being prompted for a passkey that you did not set up?

The more details you can provide, the easier it will be for forum members to suggest the most relevant next steps.

If you would prefer to speak directly with a support agent, you can also contact Microsoft Support through the support portal: Microsoft Support.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors, and external Microsoft employees cannot access accounts, verify identities, reset passwords, or make changes to account security settings. If the issue ultimately requires account-level investigation, Microsoft Support is the appropriate team to assist.

I hope you're able to get this resolved soon, and I'll do our best to help if you can provide a few more details about the sign-in problem. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Yes. A live support agent can be reached for Microsoft account sign-in issues, but support agents cannot send password reset links or directly change account details.

    Recommended path:

    1. Start with the Sign-in helper. Microsoft states that most sign-in issues can be identified there.
    2. If the issue is still not resolved, use Contact Microsoft Support, enter the problem, select Get Help, then select Contact Support.
    3. If chat options appear, choose the live chat option to be routed to a support agent.
    4. If access to the affected account is blocked, using another Microsoft account that still works can help reach support options.

    Important limits:

    • Support agents are not allowed to send password reset links.
    • Support agents are not allowed to access or change account details.
    • If the problem is specifically account recovery, Microsoft directs users to the account recovery and sign-in tools.

If the issue involves a lost phone for sign-in, Microsoft states that a verified email and passkey provide recovery options.
