How to fix page sequence when printing a Word for Mac document?

Created a new word document, added several pictures from files.

There are two pages in my document.

I then select File > Print.

In the Copies & Pages section, the Collated option is checked ON, but I don't recall setting it on. (Epson ET-2800)

The Print dialog window appears and it shows the second page in my document as "1 of 2" just below the quick preview pane, and the first page appears as 2 of 2.

If I turn off the Collated option, the Quick Preview does not change the order of the pages in the Quick Preview window/pane.

If I generate the document as a PDF, page 2 appears first in the PDF and page 1 appears second, last.

Unable to correct this behavior. Frustrating.

The page order issue is not controlled by Collated. In Word for Mac, Collated affects how multiple copies are grouped, not the sequence of pages in a two-page document.

Use these checks and fixes:

  1. In Word, go to Word > Preferences > Print.
  2. Under Print options, check whether Reverse print order is turned on.
  3. If it is selected, clear it.
  4. Go back to File > Print and verify the preview again.

If the preview still shows page 2 before page 1:

  1. Create a new blank Word document.
  2. Add a few words of sample text.
  3. Print it.
    • If the new document prints in the correct order, the problem is in the original document.
    • If the new document also shows reversed order, the issue is likely with Word’s print settings or printer configuration.

Also verify the document is not just previewing in reverse because of output stacking:

  1. In Word > Preferences > Print, leave Reverse print order off unless the printer stacks pages back-to-front.
  2. In File > Print, confirm the correct printer is selected.
  3. Check the print settings under Copies & Pages and Layout.

If the problem affects PDF output too, that points more to the document or Word settings than to the printer. Testing with a new document is the fastest way to confirm that.

If needed, print only one page at a time to verify the actual page content order:

  1. File > Print.
  2. Under Pages, print Current Page, or specify a page range.
  3. Confirm page 1 contains the expected content and page 2 contains the expected content.
