I need to purchase a windows 10 license

In the Settings app in windows go to the activation page and select Go to Store. This will open the windows Store and should show the option to purchase a Windows 10/11 licence for the device you are using.

I understand that losing access to your Windows license after recovering the drive can be inconvenient.

However, kindly note that Windows 10 is no longer generally available for direct purchase from Microsoft and reached end of support on October 14, 2025. If your computer supports Windows 11, I recommend upgrading to remain on a supported and more secure version of Windows.

Before purchasing another license, please confirm that the recovered installation matches the computer’s original edition, either Home or Pro. You may also be able to locate the original license information in the computer’s packaging, Certificate of Authenticity label, purchase confirmation email, retailer account or Microsoft account order history.

If Windows was preinstalled on the computer, I suggest contacting the manufacturer, as the license may be associated with the device. If you still need a new license, look for remaining stock from a well-known, authorized retailer. Confirm that it is a genuine Retail license for the correct edition and keep the receipt or other proof of purchase.

I also recommend being cautious with third-party marketplaces, particularly listings offering only a heavily discounted key. These may be counterfeit, previously used or Volume Licensing keys intended for organizations and they may fail activation or become blocked later.
