Using older versions of Outlook for Mac for personal email and calendar
Try these checks in Outlook for Mac:
- Confirm Outlook is online:
- In Outlook, open the Outlook menu.
- Make sure Work Offline is not checked.
- Check whether the outgoing server needs authentication:
- Go to Tools > Accounts.
- Select the email account in the left pane.
- Under Outgoing server, select More Options.
- Choose the correct authentication type and enter the account credentials if required.
- Verify the account credentials and server settings:
- Go to Tools > Accounts.
- Select the account.
- Confirm the email address, user name, and password are correct.
- If this is a Microsoft 365 account using IMAP/POP, the outgoing SMTP server is smtp.office365.com.
- Check for network or firewall blocking:
- If incoming mail works but outgoing mail does not, the network or ISP may be blocking the SMTP server.
- If available, use an alternative SMTP server provided by the ISP or network administrator.
- To change it: Tools > Accounts > select account > in Outgoing server, enter the server name or address.
- Check mailbox storage:
- If Microsoft cloud storage is full, sending and receiving email can stop.
- Check mailbox storage and remove items if needed.
- If a message is stuck because attachments are too large:
- Open the Drafts folder.
- Remove some attachments and send again.
- Or delete the draft, then delete it again from Trash to fully remove it.
- If the issue continues:
- In Outlook, select Help > Contact Support.
