Keys on keybord do not work, exmple the letter Q & A The shift key & the Control key do not work

My laptop keyboard is not fully functional. Keys like the letter A – Q- 8 – Control do not work. I am currently typing by using the screen keyboard. How do I fix this.

Thank you for reaching out.

Since several keys, including A, Q, 8, Shift and Ctrl are not responding, I recommend trying the following:

Open Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, then turn off Filter Keys, Sticky Keys and Toggle Keys.
Open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, uninstall the keyboard device and restart the laptop so Windows can reinstall it.
Test with an external USB keyboard. If it works normally, the issue may be limited to the built-in keyboard.
Test the affected keys in the laptop’s BIOS/UEFI. If they also do not work there, this would suggest a hardware issue that may require inspection or repair.

Could you share the laptop’s make and model, whether this started after an update, spill or physical impact and whether the affected keys work in BIOS/UEFI?

Open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, uninstall the keyboard device and restart the laptop so Windows can reinstall it.

when I opened the keybord in Device mgr I hd 2 keybord devices, I uninstld one of them & restrted my computer. s you cn see I still hve problem.

I hve no ide how to open BIOS/UEFI.

Thank you for the additional details.

Since Filter Keys, Sticky Keys and Toggle Keys were already disabled and reinstalling the keyboard driver did not help, the next step is to determine whether this is a Windows/software issue or a hardware issue. Testing the affected keys in BIOS/UEFI can help make that distinction. If the keys do not work there either, it would strongly suggest a hardware problem rather than a Windows issue.

On an Acer Aspire Go 15, you can usually enter the BIOS/UEFI by:

Completely shut down the laptop.

Turn it back on and immediately start tapping F2 repeatedly until the BIOS screen appears.

Once in BIOS, try the affected keys (A, Q, 8, Shift, Ctrl) where possible to see if they respond.

I also wanted to clarify that it is normal to see more than one keyboard entry in Device Manager, so uninstalling one of them does not necessarily indicate a problem.

Could you also let me know:

Do you have access to an external USB keyboard to test with the laptop?

Did this issue begin after a Windows update, or did it appear suddenly?

Are the affected keys physically responsive (they press down normally), or do they feel stuck or different from the other keys?
