Please, I know exactly where to set (change) the colour of the mouse cursor, but it simply doesn't work at all. I have Windows 11 OS.

I can only guess this happened after an Intel graphics update.

There must be a broken registry key or something like that.

Please, can Microsoft fix it?

I just want to report that Microsoft finally fixed that problem by issuing an update...

Thank you so much to all involved in...

The problem with the mouse cursor is widely reported to be caused by a bug in the optional preview update (KB5120998) released at the end of August.

Check if you have that update installed and if so, uninstalling the update should fix the problems.

Also, in the Windows updates section in the settings app, disable this setting to stop the optional preview update re-installing on your system - 'Get the latest updates as soon as they are released'.

Sadly, this is an issue which needs to be solved by Microsoft, as there is nothing working regarding the colour change of the mouse cursor at this moment. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/servicing/os/windows-11/2026/08/kb5120998-windows-11-24h2-25h2-update

What is the exact version of Windows that you are currently using? I have Windows 11 Pro 25h2 with all updates and I haven't had any problems with mine. Provide an image of where you are changing the color of the pointer.

    Mine MousePointer ColorRed

Is this where you made changes?

Perform a right click on Start>Settings>Accessibility>Mouse Pointer & Touch and make the changes you want to use.

If changing the mouse cursor color in Windows 11 does nothing, there is a confirmed Windows issue where mouse personalization settings can be reverted to standard settings after certain updates. Microsoft has documented that on affected non-English Windows installations, cursor and cursor animation settings fail to load, and manually restoring them is not successful because the settings do not load correctly.

    What can be done now:

    1. Open Start > Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch.
    2. Try changing the pointer Size and Mouse pointer style again.
    3. Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
    4. Select Additional mouse settings and review the Pointer Options settings.
    5. If the cursor still does not keep the selected appearance, this matches the documented known issue rather than a normal settings mistake.

Important detail: Microsoft’s documented issue says that attempting to manually restore the settings is not successful on impacted systems. That means a broken registry fix is not a supported solution from the available guidance.

If the problem is specifically with the text-selection cursor becoming white or hard to see in apps, one documented workaround is:

    1. Press Win + R.
    2. Open the mouse pointer configuration dialog.
    3. On the Pointers tab, select Text Select.
    4. Choose Browse and select beam_r.cur.
    5. Apply the change.

If the problem is happening in classic Outlook specifically, there is also a separate known issue where the mouse pointer disappears when hovering over the Outlook interface. Microsoft’s current status is Investigating. Documented workarounds are:

    1. Select an email when the hover highlight appears.
    2. Open PowerPoint, click in an editable area, then return to Outlook.
    3. Restart the computer.
