How to get back the Family Organizer from my son's account?

For the Microsoft Family page

My Son has become the Family Organizer, and I need this put back onto my account.

It won't let me change it and it won't let me invite him into mine because he is in a family group and can't leave as he is the organizer.

He can't use certain apps because of this.

Let me know your thoughts.

Are you currently a member of the family group, with your son now listed as the organizer? Or is your son simply a member of the family group?

Open an incognito tab on any web browser and sign in with his account. https://account.microsoft.com/family
Post a screenshot of the family safety page here.

See if your child (who's the Organizer) has the option to leave the Family group.

Hi I have gone into his account and taken a screen shot to help as it does not give me the 3 dots on his name, but the one that say (YOU) the 3 dot just let you edit your profile picture.

This is because your son isn’t listed as the Family Organizer.

Since you’re signed in with your child’s account, which is shown as “YOU,” the person displayed in the screenshot (possibly Logan) is the Family Organizer.

If you sign in with the Family Organizer’s account, you should be able to remove your child’s account from the family group.

There is no supported way to transfer the Family organizer role directly from one account to another.

To get the family group back under the parent account, the practical path is:

Sign in to the family group at account.microsoft.com/family or family.microsoft.com using the current organizer account.
Remove all other organizers and members from that family group.
Once everyone else has been removed, the current organizer can select Leave family group from their own name.
After that, create or use the parent account’s family group and invite the son into it.

Important points:

Only an organizer can remove people from a family group.
If Leave family group does not appear, that account is not recognized as an organizer on that page.
If the son is shown as a child account and cannot be removed normally, the organizer may need to select Remove consent for this child's account first, then Remove from family group.
Leaving or being removed from a family group causes loss of access to shared Family Safety features and shared products/services such as Microsoft 365 Family.
Family groups without an organizer and at least one other family member will be deleted.

If the current organizer account cannot complete these steps or the family state is stuck, use Microsoft Support through Contact Microsoft Support.
