Display mode will not show my 2nd Monitor to Extend

I am trying to use a 2nd monitor to extend the display on my PC. When hit Windows button plus P, my PC will not accept the extend selection.

we I right click then go to display duplicate/extend monitors nothing shows up for me to extend.

I just bought an HDTV splitter to hook my monitors up to my Dell PC, could it be the problem?
