August 31 Outlook Outage

Hello,

I had a student award paper to submit by the 31st of August, but I wasn't aware of an Outlook outage. I clicked Send and thought it had been sent because it wasn't in my Outbox. Only to check today and realize it didn't deliver until September 1st at 2:02 pm.

I am writing to request a log showing that there was a send attempt on August 31st and that the email was delayed or held in a queue. I need evidence of a 'deferred' or 'queued' email log associated with my IP address and email account on August 31st.

Thanks,

Loveline Phillips

    Hi Phillips,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, I understand that you would like to extract the email delivery timestamps to determine whether the email was delayed.

Since you are using an Education account, your account information, including your email account, is managed by your tenant administrator, which is typically your school's IT department.

In this case, you may contact your administrator and ask for assistance in retrieving the email information through the Message Trace feature in the Exchange Admin Center.

When contacting your administrator, please share the following documentation with them that explains how to perform a Message Trace:

Message trace in the new EAC in Exchange Online | Microsoft Learn

After the trace has been completed, you will be able to see information such as when Exchange Online received the email and when the email was successfully delivered.

The Received field shows the time when Exchange Online received your email. Please refer to the image below for more details:

I hope this information is helpful.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.
