How to mass import into dynamics

Yes. In Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (on-premises), contacts can be mass imported from a spreadsheet or similar file by using the Import Data wizard.

Supported import file formats:

• .csv
• .txt
• .zip
• Excel Spreadsheet 2003 .xml
• Excel Workbook .xlsx

File size limits:

• .zip: up to 32 MB
• Other supported formats: up to 8 MB

Important preparation notes:

• Make the file as complete and accurate as possible before importing.
• If importing .csv or .txt, verify the field and data delimiters.
• A .zip file can contain multiple import files, which is useful when combining spreadsheets from multiple sources.
• If a Dynamics-exported template was modified by adding a new column, importing it back will fail.

To import contacts:

1. Go to Settings > Data Management > Imports.
2. On the command bar, select Import Data > Import Data.
3. Browse to the saved file, select it, then select Open and Next.
4. Review the file name. For .csv or .txt, confirm the delimiters are correct, then select Next.
5. Select Default (Automatic Mapping) for the System Data Map, then select Next.
6. In the Record Types drop-down list, select Contacts, then select Next.
7. Review field mapping. For any item with an alert icon, map the column from the source file to the corresponding Dynamics field, then select OK and Next.
8. Review the summary, then select Next.
9. Select Submit.
10. To confirm success, open Imports and review the report.

If more than one file needs to be imported, either:

• run the wizard again for each file, or
• combine them into a single .zip file and import that.

For importing other record types such as leads, accounts, or similar data, the same wizard is used. During the process, select the appropriate Record Type and confirm the field mappings. If duplicate handling appears, keeping Allow Duplicates set to No is recommended in most cases to avoid importing duplicate records.

After the import finishes, open Contacts and verify that the records and field values were imported correctly.
