Account creation has been blocked

We have detected some unusual activity and have blocked the creation of a Microsoft account.

I have searched the web, flushed my cache, no VPN and just using my standard internet provider, cannot find a way to register an account for my backup non-Microsoft account.

This block is typically an automated security restriction triggered by unusual activity, repeated sign-up attempts, the network being flagged, or browser/device signals.

    Try this in order:

    1. Stop attempting sign-up for at least 24 hours. Repeated attempts can keep the block active.
    2. Use a different network. Switch from the current connection to another Wi-Fi network or mobile data.
    3. Try a different verification path or method if one is offered during sign-up.
    4. Use a normal browser session, not repeated private/incognito attempts.
    5. If the block does not clear after 24 hours, wait longer. In some cases it can take up to 1 week.
    6. Use the Microsoft sign-in helper to identify the issue and available support options: Start

If the goal is to use Teams with another organization as a guest and the account is a work or school account, password reset can unblock a risky guest account if self-service password reset is enabled. Use the Password reset portal. If that does not work, the organization IT administrator must assist.

    Hello @William,

Based on the error message you shared, Microsoft's automated security systems have detected activity that triggered a risk check and temporarily blocked the creation of a new Microsoft account.

Based on the information provided, could you share a bit more about your setup?

    • As this thread is under the business tag, can you confirm if you're trying to create a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?
    • Are you signing up directly from the Microsoft account sign-up page or through the Microsoft Teams sign-up process?
    • Does the issue occur on multiple devices and browsers, or only on a specific device?
    • Could you please describe the exact steps you are taking to create the account?
    • Are you receiving any additional error codes or reference IDs along with the message?
    • You mentioned that you are trying to "register an account for my backup non-Microsoft account." Could you please clarify what you mean by this? Are you trying to:
      • Create a new Microsoft account using an existing third-party email address (such as Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)?
      • Add a backup email address to an existing Microsoft account?
      • Create a completely new Microsoft account for backup purposes?

In the meantime, please review the troubleshooting suggestions provided in the AI response above, particularly using an InPrivate/Incognito browser session, and attempting the registration again after some time.

Once you provide the additional information, I may be able to better determine whether this is related to Microsoft account creation, Teams sign-up, or a security-related block that requires assistance from Microsoft Support.

I look forward to your update.
