Excel for Mac 16.112.1 – Stocks data type missing, but works in 16.89.1

I am experiencing the same issue with the Stocks data type in Excel for Mac that was reported in this Microsoft Q&A thread: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5389230/stock-data-type-disappeared-after-updating-excel-t?orderby=newest&page=1#answers

I am currently using Excel for Mac version 16.112.1 with a Microsoft 365 subscription.

The Stocks data type is missing from the Data tab and therefore does not work.

I have tested this on the same Mac, with the same Microsoft 365 account and the same workbook:

Excel 16.112.1: Stocks data type is missing Excel 16.89.1: Stocks data type appears and works correctly

I also followed Microsoft's recommendation in the original thread and used the Microsoft Office License Removal Tool to remove the Office license files and then reactivated Microsoft 365.

This did not solve the problem. Stocks was still missing in 16.112.1.

I then installed Excel 16.89.1 again, and the Stocks data type immediately appeared and worked normally.

This seems to indicate that the problem is related to the Excel version rather than my Microsoft 365 license or account.

The problem is particularly frustrating because I use the Stocks data type for a portfolio spreadsheet, including retrieving current prices and other fields from securities.

Is this a known issue in current Excel for Mac versions, and is Microsoft working on a fix?

I would really appreciate an update from the Excel team.

    Hi Emily,

    I have now tested 16.112.2 as well.

    Unfortunately, Stocks is still missing.

    So I can now reproduce the issue as follows:

    16.89.1 → Stocks works 16.112.1 → Stocks missing 16.112.2 → Stocks missing

    I am running macOS Tahoe 26.6.2.

    I also tried Microsoft's Office License Removal Tool and reactivated Microsoft 365, but this did not make any difference.

    I have therefore rolled back to 16.89.1, where Stocks immediately works again.

    Based on the testing you described, this does look much more like a version-specific Excel for Mac regression than a Microsoft 365 licensing problem.

    Microsoft still officially lists Stocks as supported in Excel for Microsoft 365 for Mac. I cannot find a Microsoft document currently identifying the missing Stocks data type in 16.112/16.112.1 as an officially acknowledged known issue.

    If Stocks is still missing in 16.112.2, I would report it from Excel > Help > Feedback > Report a Problem and include the comparison with 16.89.1.

    Also, just curious, what's your macOS version?
