Hello,

A month ago my e-mail address was changed. My old e-mail address (that has been deleted) was the only admin in a private Teams Group. Now when I try to join with my new e-mail address it says I need admin confirmation, but the admin e-mail address does not exist anymore. Is there any way to regain admin rights to the group with the new mail, or at least join the group as a member?

Hi @IC

Since the original owner account no longer exists, you'll need to contact your organization's Microsoft 365/Teams administrator for assistance.

The administrator can check whether the Team still exists and, if so, add a new owner account to the Team.

Steps for the IT Administrator:

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center.
  2. Navigate to Teams > Manage teams.
  3. Search for and select the affected Team.
  4. Open the Members tab.
  5. Click Add owners.
  6. Search for the user's new account and add it as an Owner.
  7. Save the changes.

Once the new account has been added as an owner, the user should be able to access and manage the Team normally.

If you're unsure who your IT administrator is, please contact your organization's help desk or Microsoft 365 administrator and provide them with the Team name so they can locate it and update the ownership.
