I am trying to use MS Teams on HP Omnibook5. The speakers work fine with youtube and playing test sounds but do not work with Teams. I've tried several things even reinstalling Teams. Any ideas?

Since the speakers work in YouTube and Windows test sounds, this is likely a Teams device-selection or Teams audio-settings issue rather than a general speaker failure.

    Try this end-to-end path:

    1. In Teams, open Settings and more > Settings > Devices.
Under Audio settings, make sure the correct device is selected in the Speaker dropdown.
    2. If the speaker device does not appear in Teams:
      • For wired audio, unplug it and plug it back in.
      • For Bluetooth audio, make sure it is charged, not connected to another device, and then reconnect it.
    3. In Teams, use Make a test call from Settings > Devices to verify playback.
If the test call plays back correctly, Teams is using the right speaker.
    4. If the problem happens during a meeting, in the meeting window select the dropdown arrow next to Mic > More actions > Audio settings, then confirm the correct Speaker is selected and unmuted.
    5. In Windows, verify the output device that Teams should use:
      • Open Start > Settings > System > Sound
      • Under Output, select the correct speaker
      • Make sure volume is not muted
    6. Set the speaker as the default playback device:
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound
      • Open More sound settings > Playback
      • Right-click the correct device and select Set as default
    7. Turn off audio enhancements in Windows, since they can interfere with playback:
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound
      • Select the active output device
      • Under Advanced settings, set Audio enhancements to Off
    8. Check simple hardware routing issues:
      • Make sure headphones are not still plugged in
      • If using USB audio, try a different USB port
      • Confirm speaker power and volume controls are on
    9. If using Teams through Remote Desktop, check Remote Desktop Connection > Local Resources > Remote audio > Settings and set Remote audio playback to Play on this computer.
    10. If the issue is only in Teams on the web, check browser and app permissions for device access and then refresh the app.

    Important notes:

    • Keep Teams updated to the latest version.
    • Install the latest Windows update.
    • The Make a test call feature is unavailable on Teams for web.
    • In Microsoft Q&A, the in-meeting Test mic and speaker option was reported as not fully reliable, and Make a test call may not be available for personal accounts.

    Hi Jeff Huddleston

You can refer to AI's suggestions first, especially the checks for the Teams speaker device, test calls, Windows sound settings, and audio enhancements.

If those steps do not resolve the issue, I would also recommend checking the following:

    • Open Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer while Teams is running and verify that Teams is not muted and is assigned to the correct output device.
    • Try signing in to Teams on the web and test a meeting. If audio works there, the issue may be specific to the Teams desktop client.
    • Reset the Teams app from Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Microsoft Teams > Advanced options > Reset, then sign back in and test again.
    • Test with a different Windows user profile, if available. This can help determine whether the issue is related to the current user profile rather than Teams or the audio device itself.

Additionally, if the issue still persists, could you please share some information to better understand the situation?

    • Do you hear the Teams ringtone when placing a call?
    • Does the issue occur in all Teams meetings and calls?

I hope this information helps and I look forward to your response.
