- Check how the front displays behave when the Teams Rooms PC stops sending video after idle. Teams Rooms on Windows is configured to send no video signal after 10 minutes of inactivity. Front of room displays should be configured for PC mode if available, or set to sleep and wake based on inactive/active HDMI signal.
- Verify the displays keep HDMI sync while sleeping. If the displays are not visible to the Windows PC while in sleep state, Windows can treat them as physically disconnected. That can cause display instability and monitoring issues. Check the display manufacturer settings for behavior that preserves HDMI sync.
- Test the display chain without intermediate devices. Since the affected rooms use an Extron autoswitch and HDMI ingest path, test by temporarily bypassing any HDMI extenders, adapters, switchers, or EDID-related devices in the front-of-room path where possible. Microsoft guidance specifically calls out HDMI extenders, video adapters, and EDID devices as common causes of display issues.
- Check EDID handling. If the switch or any inline device is emulating or managing EDID, verify that it is functioning correctly. As a test, bypass the EDID-related device if possible. Faulty or incorrect EDID handling is specifically called out as a cause of display problems.
- Review display power settings and wake behavior. For cases where displays remain off or in standby when the console wakes, verify display power settings and whether the display supports wake on signal. Many displays, especially consumer models, do not automatically wake when the Teams Rooms device resumes video output.
- If the displays or switch cannot maintain stable presence to the PC overnight, test a powered EDID emulator/minder. Microsoft notes that powered EDID emulators/minders can mitigate instability and prevent display disconnected alerts when displays are not visible to the Windows PC in sleep state. This is especially relevant for an overnight-only issue tied to idle/sleep behavior.
- Keep the display configuration standardized between working and failing rooms.
Since other dual-display rooms are stable, compare the failing rooms against the working rooms for:
- display model and firmware
- display power settings
- PC mode setting
- wake on signal support
- any switcher, adapter, extender, or EDID device differences
A practical isolation test for this environment is:
- leave one affected room overnight in dual monitor mode with the Extron/Barco path disconnected from HDMI ingest
- leave another affected room overnight with the normal chain intact
- if the issue only occurs with the switched ingest path present, the likely cause is HDMI sync or EDID behavior in that chain during overnight idle
Also note that Teams Rooms dual display is designed as an extended display configuration, not a duplicated one during meetings. If the current design depends on external switching to force the same source to both front displays, that makes the HDMI/EDID path more likely to be the source of instability than the Teams Rooms app itself.
