When I launch Team in the desktop application on my mac I get two business accounts that I no longer use, I deleted the keychain entries, uninstalled the application, reinstalled it but everything remains the same. I need to remove those accounts from there.

    Dear @Knox Aurelia

I understand how frustrating it can be when old work or business accounts linger on the Microsoft Teams sign-in screen, even after deleting Keychain entries and reinstalling the app.

This issue occurs because macOS uses sandboxed Group Containers and local cache directories shared across Microsoft 365 applications. Standard uninstalls do not remove these background app data files, so the saved account identities persist.

To completely purge those legacy accounts from your sign-in prompt, please follow the steps below to perform a targeted cache and identity reset.

Step 1: Fully Quit All Microsoft Applications

    • Right-click the Microsoft Teams icon in your Dock and select Quit (or press Command + Q while active).
    • Quit all other open Microsoft 365 apps (such as Outlook, Word, or Excel).

Step 2: Remove Local Application Data & Cache

Per official Microsoft documentation on clearing the Teams cache on macOS, run the following terminal commands to clean both Classic and New Teams local data:

    • Press Command + Space to open Spotlight, type Terminal, and press Enter.
    • Copy and paste the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each: rm -rf ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2 rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/Teams

Please refer to this document: Clear the Teams client cache

Step 4: Restart Your Mac & Relaunch Teams

    • Restart your Mac to clear any remaining background identity processes.
    • Relaunch Microsoft Teams.

You will now be presented with a completely clean sign-in screen where those legacy business accounts are permanently removed.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know.

On macOS, signing out of Teams or deleting Keychain entries alone may not remove old sign-in accounts because account data can also be stored in Teams app data and shared Microsoft identity storage.

    Try this in order:

    1. Quit Teams completely
      • Right-click the Teams icon in the Dock.
      • Select Quit.
    2. Delete Teams credentials from Keychain Access
      • Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.
      • Delete entries related to the old Teams accounts.
    3. Remove Teams app data from macOS
      • In Finder, use Go to Folder and remove these folders if present:
        • ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams
        • ~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.teams
        • ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.teams.plist
        • ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
      • These locations can retain cached identity data even after reinstalling Teams.
    4. Restart the Mac
      • This clears any remaining background processes using cached sign-in data.
    5. Open Teams again
      • Teams should prompt for sign-in again without showing the old accounts.

If the old accounts still appear, sign out of other Microsoft apps on the Mac first, because macOS account sharing and Microsoft single sign-on can allow other apps to keep the account available to Teams.

If the goal is to remove the account from the device more broadly, macOS also allows removing account-related items from Keychain Access by deleting the account entry there.

Important: deleting files from ~/Library permanently removes local Teams cache and settings for that Mac.
